Ok just when I get the pedals how I like them and my lap times fall by a
couple seconds...

It seems that the wheel is becoming very loose. I can turn in a couple
degrees to the right and increasingly so to the left with out getting any
feedback (like auto centering) and when I'm in GPL the car seems to weave
back and forth either because the wheel is sending bad info, or it's so
loose I'm not holding it strait and under it. (The drivers ed variety not
cornering... where if you wait to long to correct you end up doing it in
drastic motions)

what do you guys think? I know there isn't a real question here, but any
ideas on how to fix it? I've e-mailed logi, no response yet.

Also I never got a reply on how to plug the FPS2000 digital adapter into my
SB Live Card... Since I put GPL in the subject line, maybe I'll get some
help, here's the original text.... Basically I can't figure out where to
plug this onto the SB board...

I had a play problem with my LWFF wheel also.  Downloaded Ninunni's
instructions on how to fix it.  After I disassembled my wheel per his
instructions (approximately 30 screws or so) I realized that what he was
explaining as a solution and what it was fixing just didn't make sense to me.
As it turned out the problem was simply play between the main shaft (with the
two flats on opposite sides) and the matching (or not so matching) hole in the
steering wheel.  The very simple solution is as follows:

1.  Remove the cap from the front of the wheel
2.  Remove the nut.  You may need to bend the retainer slightly to rotate the
nut.
3.  disconnect the connector and slide the wheel off of the shaft
4.  Cut a piece of paper (or mylar) the width of the flat on the shaft and a
length that is approximately 1 inch longer than the metal shaft.  You may vary
the thickness of the paper (or mylar) shim depending on how much play you have
between the shaft and the wheel.
5.  While holding the shim against the flat on the shaft and lining the bottom
end up with the bottom of the shaft (towards the mechanism side of wheel),
install the wheel while feeding the long end along with the connector through
the hole in the wheel.  Once the wheel is in place, you should be able to tell
how much less play you have.  Try a different thickness shim if necessary.
6.  Once the wheel is all the way down onto the shaft, tear off or cut the
protruding end of your shim, put on the retainer washer and nut and tighten to
the previous tightness (not very tight in my case), bend over the retainer
washer tab back against the flat of the nut, connect the connector and
reinstall the cap.

DONE!  Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes or so.  This completely solved my
problem such that the slightest movement of the wheel results in a movement on
the screen.  It's Great!

Hope this helps your problem.  Good luck.

Wayne

Wayne, I tried  this fix on my LWFF using the clear mylar from an envelope
window. There wasn't a great deal of play in the wheel, maybe couple of
degrees, but there is a noticeable improvement. Thanks for the tip.

Better email me ;-)

Either you should reduce your center death zone from 5 to 2 whatsoever using a
small program or it's a mechanical problem.
In this case the easiest solution is a loose nut under the wheel cap.

From now on there will be a manual for dissambling the Logi on my webpage.

See you
Jens

Wayne,  thanks for the excellent and simple fix.

I'm a newbie to this group and after reading a lot of different opinions on the
various wheels I went out and bought the Logitech wheel this past weekend.

After playing with it a couple of days I was pretty dissappointed with the slop
in the wheel.

But your fix worked perfectly :)  Thanks for passing along the simple fix, and
the great instructions.

Paul.

P.S I also ordered GPL, and I'm having a blast trying to learn this sim.  I
must admit, I'm, spending more time in the grass and against the fence's than
on the track right now :)
