LWFF Questions. (considering getting one)

by And » Sun, 19 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Hey all,
Thinking of getting a LWFF, and have a few questions.  Mainly how does
the wheel clamp to the desk.  I tried the MS Wheel, and just couldn't
get it to mount right.  (I have a keyboard drawer)  (My Nascar Pro
wheel mounts perfectly though.)
Also is there more than one version of the wheel?  I recall seeing one
with a red wheel, and then recently saw one with a yellow or gold
color wheel.  (I didn't look at how it mounts at the time.)
I'd perfer a USB version, but want one with pedals.  (although from
what I've read here the pedals aren't all that good)
Thanks for any info.
Andy

Hi Andy,
I've got 2 3/4" between the top of my keyboard drawer and the bottom of my
desk, the clamps on my LWFF slide in between with about 3/8" to spare, you
shouldn't have any problems.

Two***down clamps, similar to the old Thrustmaster T2, but with a
larger range.
Not sure how they'll clear a keyboard drawer, but they clear the large
lip on my desk just fine (the T2 didn't).

That's the non-FF version. Equally ugly to the red, eh? ;-)

There is one version. It's USB or serial, and comes with pedals.
The pedals do have a short throw, but they aren't as bad as everyone
says. If you don't like them you can put stiffer springs in them, but
I just chose to play in socks, and use my toes more than my foot to
press them. The upside to the design is that they absolutely don't
move around.

I got mine mail order for 100 bucks, about 80 bucks less than Best Buy
wanted for it, and only 10 bucks more than they want for the
yellow-rimmed non-FF version.

Hope that helps.
Tim

Tim,  (and Alex)

Thanks for the info.  I have about 3 inches or so between the desk and

Indeed! <G>  In fact that was my first thought, I couldn't decide if
it was worse than the red, or just equally as bad. :-)    However, I
haven't read a bad review about the red wheel.  (other than some pedal
comments)
Thanks again!

LWFF Questions. (considering getting one)

Ok, hope this helps:

Hi there

Shoot.....

Its duifferent to any other wheel thats for sure but its really really
strong. It doesn't take it loads of space and fits ine with my keyboard
drawer.

There is a red one which is Force FeedBack and a black one without FF.

Yup, mine is USB so thats ok........
Personally I think the pedals are great....... The thing is tht the springs
aren't as strong as some other wheels so its doesn't push back as much as
some others. I don't really care since the thing is cool and if you are used
to a stiffer spring, I'm told you can replace them with ones from a DIY
store but don't take me up on that, I'm not 100% sure if this can be done
but I don't see a reason why not.

Well that was any ifno, hope it helped a little.

Bye!

Dave,
Thanks a TON!  Exactly what I was hoping someone would post, much
appreciated.  Now, anyone know a mail order site on the net that has
them in stock?  I checked a few places that I've dealt with in the
past and they don't carry the wheel.  Someone sent me a link via
email, ( www.provantage.comt) but they are on backorder.
Best Buy sells them here in PA, but they go for $179, while the above
site is selling them for about $124.  (that price includes shipping)
Thanks!
Andy

I have a drawer too. The MS wheel required that I remove the
drawer. The TM wheel did not, and neither does the Logitech.

Perhaps you should try them and see for your self. I too thought the
pedals would suck (until I *ACTUALLY* tried them). Now I don't
give it a second thought. I just have fun racing.
