GPL steering ratio for LWFF

I use a Logitech Wingman Formula Force, which has 180 degrees of
travel.  I couldn't get through either hairpin at Monaco with the
default setups.  At first I tried to spin the tires to get through,
but that wouldn't do for a long race.  Then I compared the steering
data of my replay and the benchmark replay with the GPL Replay
Analyser.  Sure enough, I wasn't turning the wheel as far.

I've found 10:1 to be an acceptable steering ratio at Monaco (the
default setup uses 16:1, as do Alison's).  Would lowering the steering
ratio make other tracks more comfortable, too?  I've operated under
the assumption that you want as high a ratio as possible, to make the
car smoother.  On the other hand, I read somewhere that high ratios
induce "opposite lock understeer"--you can't correct oversteer with
the steering wheel.

Look in your GPL directory and see if there is a "core.ini" file.  If
there is one, open it up and see if there is a "hack" line, like:

[ Hack ]
steer_ratio = 1                             ; 0 = off, 1 = on

If you can't get through hairpins, it needs to be set to 1.  A "1" gives
you a variable ratio steering gear.  Check your readme file.

I use 10:1 with my Ferrari FF wheel in all tracks.
If I try 15:1 or so (as in many of the setups I've found) I seem to be
unable to
a) get round tight corners
b) spin out more often
c) generally cannot make the car to turn at turning point as I would like.

Also I have the linearity setting all to the left.

I have thought that this has something to do with my karting habbit.
In karting you don't turn the wheel so much to make a corner.
(I don't drive any other driving games nowadays exept GPL, so I don't have
much to compare)

Or it just might be my lack of skill as it comes to handling the eagle or
lotus in GPL.
(nah.... :)

ehhh....

Sure I wish I could be unable to spin out :-)

AFAIK the steering ratio is changed to a certain value, when falling below a
certain speed (was it 7:1???) Nunnini wrote about this on his page R.I.P.
You can see this when trail-braking in some corners that the wheels steer in
further, the slower you get.
IMO the (slow driving) steering ratio cannot be influenced by steering ratio
settings in (default) setup.

Hint: you have to optimize your driving line.
