Why ask for comments on something you have in
your possession?

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks now,
you can judge for yourself.

A I missing something here?

Apart from a bit of sympathy you're also missing an 'm'.

Maybe- just maybe - he bought it at a store which accepts hardware returns.

And maybe - I know it sounds insane, but maybe - he wants to know if any
problems occur after using it for, say, 100 hours, and wants to know if
someone has had these problems.

I know it sounds crazy.

And yes, you are missing something here.

What's more, he MIGHT want to know if there are tricks to make his wheel run
optimally. Silly boy. Not EVERYONE already knows about squashballs, and have
to ask.

Hi Robin,

I just received my MSFF several days ago and I'm pretty disappointed with
it.  Hooking this wheel up to my system drops framerates in Re-Volt from
65-70 FPS to 19-25.  Framerates in NFS/PU also *seem* adversely affected.

It seems like the FF stuff for the MSFF hit the CPU pretty hard.  I opened
up the Sidewinder control software and hit the tab where FF effects can be
tested by pressing various buttons on the wheel.  Whenever a FF effect
was active, CPU utilization jumped from 2-4% to approximately 40% (!!!)
as seen with Wintop.

This is such a shame because I really like the wheel and pedals.  I'm planning
on checking out a Logitech Wingman Formula Force next week.

HTH,

John

I guess you had already purchased the wheel when I
warned you about this very thing... You should like the
Logitech FF USB wheel.

Yeah, I was under the false impression that a P3-750 could handle the
overhead of the MSFF.  Guess not.  My LWFF (cheesy pedals and all :)
is on its way.

Thanks for the recommendations, Greg -

John,

My P2-350 works fine with the Logitech USB. There is no trouble
with processor load at all. Must admit I'm shocked that MSFF
causes such trouble.

Not a shock once you learn the numbers. The MSFF takes 1.5million
CPU cycles to do one FF event, while the LWFF takes 50k.

You will like it. Very low CPU use, very smooth, subtle effects.
Especially nice for real sims like GPL (much nice feel than the MS
whell in my opinion).

My own experience with the MSFF is that I didn't notice any drop in fps at
all... this was when I was using it on my old P233MMX machine which I would
have thought would have really made the drop noticeable.

Currently using a LWFF but may well hook up the MSFF again to see if I
these problems are noticeable on my newer system.
