GPL and SBLive static

GPL and SBLive static

I installed Liveware 2.0 last night and played GPL for an hour or so afterwards.

I noticed no difference in sound (ie. a little rough around the edges, but isn't that normal?).  No better, no worse.

I have an Abit BH6 w/Celeron 300a, 128mb ram, Phoenix Banshee AGP and SB Live.

Are you running the Live on a board with the VIA MVP3 chipset by any chance?  You can lessen the static by disabling UDMA autodetect in BIOS and making sure the DMA box for the hard drives in Device Manager is checked off.  You will lose a little HD speed, but your SBLive will sound a lot better.  This won't apply unless you have a VIA chipset, though!

Any SB Live owners downloaded the new Liveware 2.0 drivers? I did this
evening, and in GPL now, I get a lot of static. I had a little static
before, but had been able to eliminate most of it by knocking hardware
acceleration down a notch. Now I have it worse, and knocking the
acceleration down doesn't seem to help. I'd be curious if other SB Live
owners have gotten the new drivers and have the same problem.

I have another new problem also, however this started a few days ago, before
dowloading the new drivers. I am getting knocked to the replay screen during
the race, whether in practice or the race. I'll be driving along then all of
a sudden I'm looking at the replay screen, with a message to press pause to
continue. Seems to happen randomly. Anyone else have this and know of a fix?

No, I'm running the 300A on an Abit BH6 as well. I somehow managed to get rid of the static problem, but am still getting punted to the pause screen during the race. I don't think the latter has anything to do with the new drivers though.

I have SB Live (Value) and using the Liveware 2.0 drivers with full HW
acceleration. No problems with GPL. My system: PII 392 MHz, 128 MB,
G200 8 MB, V2 12 MB, Abit BX6, MS FF wheel, and so on.

I've been trying to download the new drivers for the past 2 days.. I'm down
to three megs left after many many hours of .5K/sec to 0K/sec... I think
that Creative Labs' servers suck :) All 6 or 7 of them have been like
that... I get about 250 K from one server before it times out, then Gozilla
switches to the next one in line... sigh

It had better be worth it :)

Mirror sites are up at the creative.products.sound_blaster.live newsgroup.
There are no customised enviroments for GPL in the update. FWIW I am using
Music-Audio CD {jazz} for GPL oddly enough, I haven't tried all environments
but most of the *** pre-sets are overdone IMO..........to each his own
:-)

The static problem may be caused by the Speaker Configuration (Speaker icon in
the AudioHQ folder) set to headphones. Try changing it to one o the speakers
settings.

Worked for me.

I'll have to try that.  Any suggestions from others?

I made my own custom environment, beginning with the included 3D Racing
environment and then lessening the reverb somewhat and adding a bit of the
Chorus effect.

I've found it to work well with the other Racing Sims I use

If I remember correctly, all mirror pages access the same
download-page, so no improvement. Change the time you try.

I also needed some trials for being successful

BTW: IE5 is able to continue a partly done download (at least, if you
don't shut down in between).

Hope this helps

No, mirrors are "images" of the "original" site.  A true mirror will
constantly check the original site and automatically get images (i.e.,
download copies) of any changed files.  Many of the mirror'ed sites are
not true mirrors, in that they are not "automatically" being updated,
but require the mirror operator to know when to update the files.

Hi Michael,

I guess my post was a little unclear.
If you access their download site from any of their mirrow-pages, you
always get to the same site. The download-site is not mirrored (If I
remember correctly).
