Hey there,

I have the SBLive installed, and when I play GPL,I seem to get a fair
amount of static comming over the speakers. This tends to increase as
the I rev the cars & as I increase the speed of my vehicle.

Anyone out there that can help me figure this one out??:)

It has to do with the game port. I use a SBLive with a USB wheel, I get
no static.

I use a SBLive! with the card's game port and I get no static whatsoever.
SB PCI 128 has terrible static in GPL (and any other game that uses 8-bit
samples).

Marc.

Nope... I also have a SB Live installed and no static at all.
I have a TSW Sport connected to the gameport and it works great.

Few days ago I noticed a message about static and SB Live on this
NG. One of the replies was that the SB Live had problems on
certain Super 7 boards.

Browse down a bit to see how it could be solved.

*sigh* Why don't people read a NG first before posting a message
with a problem they have... example: the 1000 posts about GPL and
Glide 2.54/2.53 *sigh*

Regards,

I also read that disabling UDMA hard disk transfers
will get rid of SB Live static.  Has anyone tried
it?

The following worked for me w/ Win 98...

In control panel, select multimedia. In the audio tab, select
playback, advanced properties. Select performance.  My hardware
acceleration was at "full". Turned it down 1 click.

No more static.

YMMV

I tried that too, but it didn't work for me.

What DID work was disabling UDMA.  It has made
a significant difference.  I've only ran GPL for
a few minutes so far, but it seemed a lot better.
I fired up Isreali Air Force, which also had a
lot of static, and it was perfectly clean too.

UDMA can be disabled in the system BIOS.  My
system is a K6-350 with some sort of TX chipset.

To those of you, who were kind enough to reply to my post with
solutions,(you know who you are) Thanks alot. I was able to sort out the
static problem by doing just what 'MG' suggested . The sound is now
perfect!..................now if only the car would stay on that damn
track...........:)

Ultra Direct Memory Access?  It's a newer mode of hard disk
data transfer that is very fast.  It seems to have been
the culprit in my SB Live static problem.  My motherboard
may have been generating excessive electro-magnetic inter-
ference that was being picked up by the sound car circuitry.
That's my theory anyway...

> One suggestion. Head over to Alison Hine's website at:

> Download her setups for the Coventry.

> From there, it's a matter of seat time. Practice, practice, practice.
