After hours of***ing around with the SBLive under XP to stop bad GPL sound
(undriveable), buying a Fortissimo III, hours***ing around with *that* to
stop GPL stuttering and failing, I've traded in for an Audigy 2.

So far, touch wood, cross fingers, ALL IS WELL! YES!

Did it rid you of the crackling sound in GPL (looking to replace the SB live
soon)

I never got crackling - I just got truly messed up sound that made
driving near impossible. As such, I'm not sure what to listen out
for, but I did 4 or 5 laps of Zandy with a full grid just to make sure
I got no stutters and didn't hear anything untoward. Thing is, I know
with my SBLive the problems came and went, so I'll not give any solid
verdicts until I've done some more serious running.

I got shitty integrated sound in my K7S5A motherboad and it's flawless in
GPL :)
