Audigy Annoyance

Remember the old SB 128? The one that couldn't play 8-bit sounds without
static. Remember how it wrecked GPL for those unlucky / stupid-enough-to-buy
that card?
Remember that some masterful fan released a slightly modified driver file
that fixed the problem?

Well, I have just installed the latest, greatest Creative Labs SB Audigy
card and low and behold it does the same thing. It plays 16-bit wav files
beautifully, 8-bit sound like ****.

Fortunately, most of our sounds have been upgraded in GPL, but it is still
unbelievable to me that this would happen in late 2001. Of course, there is
a whole separate issue with XP drivers and this card, too.

I have Win98SE, Athlon 1.33, Abit board with latest VIA drivers.

Anyone else notice this problem? Any ideas how to fix it or do we have to
wait 6 months or a year for a driver update from Creative?

Thanks,

Marc
