N2002 Audigy settings?

by Gary Wample » Tue, 30 Apr 2002 09:55:58

I'm having trouble getting good sound in N2002 with my Audigy Gamer (W98se
Dx8.1 AMDXP1800).  Have most recent audigy driver. Have installed the N2002
patch, don't notice much difference.

One thing I changed which helped *some* was in core.ini changing
"allow_buffer_recreation="  from 0 to 1.
Also set "force_default_buffer_size=6.

Before doing this, sound would cut out completely when running with a lot of

Sound still is not clear, and the engine sound will cut out briefly when
accelerating.

What sound settings do you recommend in the app.ini and core.ini files?

My core.ini sound settings:

[Sound]
allow_buffer_recreation=1
convert_3d_stereo=1
enable_3d_interpolation=1
force_default_buffer_size=6
force_min_readahead=3.000000
interpolationValue=0

Thanks

I have tried changing the buffer size with no luck, I am having the same
problems as you, except mine occured after applying the patch. Prior to the
patch, mine was working pretty good.
I am about at the point to try a totally new install, as it is very
difficult to race online as it is now.

Have you tried turning down the hardware acceleration on that card?

No, but if you saw my post in another thread, I solved it by turning down
the volume output on the audigy, knocked it down couple of notches, and just
cranked the volume up with my speaker control. No more static thankfully.

Nope, missed it Don.  Might try decreasing the acceleration on the hardware and you'll probably get your volume control back to normal.  8-)

N2002 Audigy settings?

Gary...

I have applied the N2K2 patch to two sim rigs of ours.....one with an
Audigy...the other with an SB Live 5.1 X-Gamer (one is my personal racing
rig for N2K2).  Post patch sound is total junk.  I changed nothing from the
settings used in the pre-patch N2K2....and the sound was awesome!  Now its
crackling, cutting out...total junk.  I don't know what Papy did.......but
they sure don't address this issue in the readme that I can see.

I tried copying the sound.dat from the original CD back into the post-patch
sound folder (I know..it was a long shot...but worth a try)....that did
nothing....sound is still junk.

I'm hoping Papy will give us a clue as to the fix for this....soon.  I tried
racing online tonight....couldn't.  The sound was so irritating, I just
exited and did something else.

N2002 Audigy settings?

I've tried a little of everything, and though not perfect, these settings
are better on my system:

- Hardware acceleration: 1 notch below full
- core.ini settings:
[Sound]
allow_buffer_recreation=1                ; re-create sound buffers to
improve quality
convert_3d_stereo=0                      ; convert stereo to mono for
positional sounds in 3d mode
enable_3d_interpolation=1                ; enable volume interpolation for
3d sound
force_default_buffer_size=3              ; Set forced buffer size in 1/36
second units. Define a value of 3 or larger
force_min_readahead=1.000000             ; Set forced read ahead, expressed
in 1/36 second ticks.
interpolationValue=0

For me, with these settings the sound does not cut out when in the middle of
the pack accelerating at 'dega.
Also, the sound no longer cuts out when I rev the engine.  When the
read-ahead value was large, the sound would
cut out briefly when revving the engine, both on the way up and on the way
down.

Good luck!

Thanks Gary
   I just plugged in your settings and things sounded much better.  running
last night, at Bristol, I couldn't find my engine in what sounded like a
mush of noises....using your settings cleared things up nicely.  Thankyou.
