But once the test is done you can then slide the acceleration all the way back up and everything will work fine. You only need to lower it for the test.

I have also seen this on machines with the Audigy and XP here. Hopefully Creative can get this fixed but I know better than to expect good driver updates from them anymore. Anyway the following fix was taken off the Audigy FAQ site, hope this helps.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio
Tab -> Advanced Button -> Performance Tab.
Lower the Hardware acceleration to the notch just above "None". This will
fix all voice problems. However, it will disable your DirectSound3D, and
hence most of your EAX capabilities.
