I saw something on razors-edge about using Game voice from Microsoft
in N4.  does anyone do this? how "good" is it? worth pursuing?
I'm running in OpenGL...

Also, I do NOT use messengers, but I suppose I could set one up if
that is how it is done...  (how IS it done?)

I race with a friend of mine frequently and we use the game voice while
playing N4. Game performance does not appear to be effected. Voice quality
is excellent aswell. NASCAR 4 also responds well to voice commands. As far
as using a messenger goes there is no need for one. you can connect to
someone as long as you have thier IP address. The MSN Messenger software is
just an easier medium for setting up a chat connection for some.

If you have a few guys you race with and want to talk to each other try
battlecom. Works great with GPL and the cool thing is it carries over from
chat room into race itself. Talk while you race if needed while using very
little bandwith.

MS Game Voice and Battlecom are exactly the same thing. Shadow Factor were
bought out last year by MS, and their technology is now standard API in
DirectX 8.0.

The raw power and flexibility on software design is REALLY cool. I suspect
we'll see some really great voice soft for *** shortly ;)

Cheers,

Schumi

So, can you program it to, say, hit the F-whatever key to display those
settings, and use voice commands to change the data?

Or, to have it issue standard chat messages?

I could find this VERY useful.

Same here... no one has given me a clear picture yet.  If I can use
this in a race, I would LOVE it.

I'm sure Game voice can do that...but you might find Game Commander to be
not only a better value but more suited to your needs.
