Microsoft Sidewinder 3D and driving games

I got a Sidewinder 3D joystick today and I really like it with driving games.
I configure the "twisting" motion of the stick for my steering, the trigger
for acceleration, and the bottom thumb button for my braking.  I am curious if
anyone else has a Sidewinder 3D that they use for driving games and how they
have theirs configured.  Thanks for any info!

Well, I also got my Sidewinder 3D this week and I like it too! My speeds
get better at ovals in ICR1. I had trouble to run 172 mph at Loudon with
the keyboard and I did 174 mph with one try. Also I found I could lap more
consistently and I didn't touch the wall too often anymore. Therefore
the races were easy at 100% and maybe I will try 102% or so.

I am still figuring out what setup for the Sidewinder 3D is best. I don't
think I can handle steering with X-axis and acceleration with Y-axis, have
you guys tried that? So I have set up the X-axis for steering and the main
fire button for acceleration. Also possible IMHO is rotation of joystick
(3D movement) for steering and Y-axis for accelaration. However I am still
experimenting with this. Did someone try the Sidewinder with F1GP also?
Does that help with this game?

Greetings,

Rob.

Before I got a T'2 I used a joystick for control.  I used the X axis for
steering and the Y for acceleration.  I kept braking on a button.  The plus
of using the Y axis is that you can feather the throttle.  The trick is
being able to feather the throttle and still keep control of the car.  All
in all, its much easier with a wheel-pedal combo.
