Microsoft Sidewinder Wheel poor response in all games

Hi, all.  I have a M$ Sidewinder wheel (NOT force feedback).  I am
experiencing slow response times in all my driving games (driver, grand
prix legends, dirt track racing, etc.).

There is a lag of 1/4 second to 1/2 second between the time I move the
wheel and the time the car responds.  This is *not* an issue with the
sensativity of the wheel's setup, or the dead-zone.  The wheel is plenty
sensitive, and the dead-zone is very small, but there is a time lag
between input and response that makes every game unplayable.

It is quite clear in Grand Prix Legends, where you can see the wheel
move in the game.  Move the steering wheel ... short pause ... car
responds.

I do *not* have this problem with a joystick in the same games.  This
lag does *not* show up in the control panel setup screen.

It's driving me nuts.  I can't play *anything*.  I looked at the M$ site
for new software, but the newest drivers I could find up there were 3.x,
and the wheel came with 4.0.

Anyone have any ideas what the heck is going on here?  Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

I've tried it both ways.  Again, it's not like it doesn't respond to small
inputs.  It responds to small and large inputs, but after a 1/4 second lag.

Thanks,

mark

Make sure "poll with interrupts" is not checked under the Controller
ID tab in the windows joystick applet. Also go to www.stickworks.com
and download CTFJ3 and adjust sensitivity to your liking and put 0 for
deadzone on the X axis.
