GPL ON 2 PC's LAN

by BendsMast » Sun, 23 May 1999 04:00:00

At weekends I get together with a mate and race against each other and
another 18 GPL AI cars for a good 10/12 hours on the go, tremendous
fun...(Although I can't imagine what it would be like to race against
20 human drivers...WOW!)
Anyway, my problem is that, although only two machines are connected,
using 100 Mbps NICs through a mini-hub.  The way in which GPL behaves
is far from reliable, and it tends to run slower as the hours pass by
until it eventually crashes.
Can anyone give me a few tips on how to get the best out of GPL over a
TCP/IP connection for two machines?
I am using Windoze 98 and I am running 2 PII's (350 and 450) with
128mb PC100  and both pc's have two vodoo2 sli.

thanks in advance.

If you have both pc's on the LAN, I would suggest using IPX instead of
TCP/IP, IPX will give you better performance.

As to your current problem, check out your drivers for the NICs and make
sure they are the latest.  Also, in your NIC driver configuration, make sure
everything is manually set to 100 mbps, and half-duplex.

Finally, if you are still seeing this problem with TCP/IP, see if you get
the same problem with a cross-over cable instead of using the hub.

Good Luck,
Joel Belog
