New video card for Nascar1999 question

by Ron R. » Sat, 01 May 1999 04:00:00

I have a chance to pick up a Diamond Monster Fusion, Viper V550
Monster Fusion: 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee; 16MB for about 150 less rebate,
of course we all know that ever getting a rebate from Diamond is as
likely as a deficit free Govt. budget <G..

But it seems like a good deal.

Question is, is anyone having any probs, or any good experiences with
this card and Nascar 1, 2, and 99, as well as NFS3?

I don't want to buy it then find out it don't work.

Currently have a P200 with 64 ram, 16bit Sound Blaster, a stealth 64
3d card doing my 2d, and the Monster 3d 4 meg card for 3dfx.

Any info appreciated as am hoping to pick it up this weekend if is
good card for these sims.

Thanks
Ron

I'll 'second' this, at it was essentially my response too :-)

That's the going price for one of those. I got one over Christmas time. I,
too, have a P200. I had a Monster3D and saw considerable improvement on all
my games with the Fusion. I put off that CPU upgrade until the next round of
team sports games comes out this fall (or possibly until N3 surfaces).

I play N99, no more N1 or N2, so I don't know about those, but I am very
happy with the performance of N99 since I got the Fusion. I rarely see
choppiness in the turns at the short tracks anymore, only when I'm running
with a full field. I also have 24 cars drawn, so maybe if I cut that down...

With NFS3, you need to get the patch for it to work with any Banshee card.
There are many sites out there that have it. One other problem I have with
NFS3 is sometimes the machine freezes up after you finish a race and exit to
go back to the menu screen. However, I turn the graphics up to the max and
the game looks and runs beautifully.

I've been satisfied with mine, although a new board/CPU would be a very
worthwhile investment. I still haven't received my rebate from Diamond, btw.

$129 is a helluva bargain, and should see some speed benefit over the V1 or
the Banshee even on his system.
