To those with FF Wheel/GP3 Problems! (A Solution?)

by Alan » Wed, 02 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I was having absolutley no problems with my Ferrari FF wheel, but was
surprised that there were so many posts from other with problems.

So I experimented to see if I could reproduce ANY of the probs others
are having.

First thing I tried was inspired by a post read elsewhere, somebody had
mentioned about having set up there controller sensitivity for the
wheel,
Now, This struck me as odd, because the wheel axis does not have a
sensitivity setting, but rather a low-sensitivity ZONE, which on my
set-up is at 50% (figuring that 0% was full left steer & 100% full right
steer)
You would want the wheel least sensitive in it's centered position in
order to stop high-speed jitter.

So I put the LSZ for steering axis to 0% and the result was phenominal!

Immediate pull left, and absolute uncontrollability.

Tried same for 100% LSZ and got the opposite, full pull right!

So, it begs the question, are others reporting this left pull changing
the steering axis LSZ to 0%? If you are, then don't, Its not the
sensitivity you are setting, but the point on the wheels turning axis
that is least sensitive (am I making sense)

Hope this helps some of you.

good point
I'm not on my PC right now but I think I changed those setup on my wheel in
GP3

thanks

May well be, but if I set to 0%, like I said, game becomes totally
unplayable with all sorts on controller wierdness,

I figured that perhaps the 0-100% reflected position on axis, rather
than Amount of deadzone?

I'm trying to help ppl solve this you see, instead of whinging :)

rrevved,
I'm positive i'm on to something here,

Control set-up tooltip for LSZ (low sensitivity zone) quote:
"As an aid to driveability, the sensitivity of the joystick or wheel acn
be reduced near the centre of its travel for a steering wheel or near
zero for an acceleration device"

This implys that
"near zero for acceleration"
0% is LLLNNNNNNNNNN (L=Low N=Normal) (low sense set for sitting feet on
throttle/brake without reaction, vital to stop un wanted braking without
serious rsi of the ankle  :)  )

"center of travel for steering wheel"
50% is NNNNNLLLNNNNN (L=Low N=Normal) (vital to reducing jitter on
straight when 'reduce with speed=0%)

If only someone would test and lets us know :)

To those with FF Wheel/GP3 Problems! (A Solution?)

I tested it on my Saitek R4 FF wheel (based on th MS one).

My original setting was at 50 %
Changed it to 100% and tried it .  Wheel didn't pull suddenly to the left
but when sitting on the line the and turning the wheel it resisted turning
right but hade no resistance turning left almost helping me turned left.
It should be equal when stitting on the line.  When driving and turning left
i have to fight it to stop turning in but when turning right it resists me
which it is supposed to do.

When i put the setting to 0% it jummp straight to the left and the FF was
very twichy but did the same thing.

I think this problem is going to need a patch and i hope it comes out soon
because this is the only thing that is stopping me from enjoying racing
modern F1 again.

Thanks for your effort in trying to solve this problem Alan
If you have any other suggestions i'll be willing to try them.
I'm all out of ideas though
