Best FF Wheel for GPL (and probably GP3 and Nascar 4 as well)??

by Brian Shor » Fri, 07 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I'm looking for a force feedback wheel, and have narrowed it down to either
the Logitech Force Feedback wheel (I also hear a new Logitech is coming
out), or the Act Labs Force RS.  I'm sort of leaning towards the Act Labs,
but is there any reason I might want to consider the Logitech instead, or
even another wheel altogether?
Mostly I play GPL now, but will definitely be putting time behind the wheel
of both GP3 and Nascar 4.

Best wheel = Logitech
Best Pedals= Thrustmaster Nascar Pro Pedals.

Wire the two together and you get the best wheel out there ... Thge
Logimaster. That's what me and a buddy have done ... A USB connection with
the Nascar Pro Pedals

How did you wire them together? Do you have any kind of instructions? I
loathe my logitech pedals, they have so little travel that precision can be
very difficult.

Thanks,
Brian

How did you wire the two together?  Is it difficult?  Just checked
Thrustmaster's site and they have the wheel and pedals for $59 - for that
price I'll keep the pedals and chuck the wheel.

Thanks in Advance,
Jcharm

But hardly realistic for GPL.  :)

I really miss the stick shift on my ol' Thrustmaster T1 when I play GPL, but
the Microsoft wheel is a lot better overall (I'm not going back - hehe).

I read many review that said the paddle is the weakest part
and broken easily...?

My half year old Logi wheel works perfectly like just bought yesterday. =)

I like the Act Labs overall combination myself with the RS Shifter. But, I
like the wheel on the Logitech better. Re-wiring is not for the faint of
heart at all. It's straightforward in a sense but you have to figure out
which is positive and negative and the like. I'll see if I can get my buddy
to post on here how he did it but it's a great combo. If you want the
easiest deal without the hassle, get the Act Labs. The only reason we did
this was to avoid losing what we already paid ...

basically you have to put the wiring of the Logitech pedals inside the Pro
Pedals, matching the correct positive and negative settings. You also have
to drill a hole on the side of the Pro Pedals base so you can plug the Power
supply into the pedals in the same way the Logitech does it ...

And they are way too stiff.  First they were too delicate, now they have gone
to the opposite extreme.

What you mean, is it difficult, or slow, or imprecise, to change gear
with these new paddles ??

Get the Act-Labs.   There ain't no comparison with a Logitech.

Bit late replying to this one but I also use the LWFF in combination with
the Thrustmaster Nascar Pro (or F1 over here in the UK). I actually didn't
need to do any re-wiring as I simply have the LWFF plugged into the serial
port and the Thrustmaster into the gameport. In Windows game controllers I
have the LWFF assigned as iD 1 and the Thrustmaster as iD 3. In GPL it then
gives me the option of calibrating 2 seperate controllers and I just assign
the accelerator and brake ot the Thrustmaster pedals and the steering to
the LWFF.. works brilliantly.

Peter Hooper
