GP3 files needed for Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel USB ( *.sw2 and *.con)

by Blackbir » Tue, 01 May 2001 17:52:20

After a long period playing GP3 on my Windows ME machine and some problems
on my system, I have installed GP3 completely new en clean.
I also used the Microprose patch 1.13, but now I can't get my Wheel/pedals
working. My old files (*.sw2 and *.con) don't helps me now and I don't know
why.

My Microsoft gamecontroller software I use is version 4.0 and the
test-option shows a good working wheel and pedals.

My question:

Who can send me a good working *.sw2 and *.con file for Microsoft
gamecontroller software version 4.0 + GP3 with that patch 1.13 ?

Peter (who spend much time to get this working, so please help me)

I have by coincidence just been on Microsoft sidwinder website and looking
at the USB FFB S/winder wheel its states it is for windows 98 only under the
system requirements. I know the info cant be that old as the older FFB
wheels were NOT USB port only.which the more recent ones (since windows ME)
are. if you see what I mean.
Just a thought. I presume they worked before on windows ME.

Have you tried just loading the mswheel1.13 config file provided in
contoller options. I use this, but I have a older game port msff wheel

Yes, this I have tried also, but failed.

I forgot to mention that, when I also treid to a new install from my
Microsoft Controller software, I get an error about the file "oleaut32.dll"
But with this install error, I can use my wheel now. So I don't understand
why this error.

BTW I use DirectX 8.0. Do I need een newer one?

Looking on
http://www.microsoft.com/products/hardware/sidewinder/devices/FFBWhee...
SysReq.htm
it' shows me "Microsoft Windows? 98 or later operating system" and "Wheel
compatible with Windows 98-based games only"

So I think this does mean to me that my wheel can also run under ME, or not?

Since I have Windows ME I also have this USB Wheel, so I doesn't know if and
how it whas working under '98.

But at the moment seems my wheel to work under GP3, after new and again new
(and so on) installation from GP3 who also runs good now with that patch
1.13.
Why? I can't explain. I use the same *.con and *.sw2 file before, so this
can't be the solution.

Weird is also that, when I wan't to calibrate my wheel in GP3, I can do this
only for a joystick, not for an wheel. So tips or help I still need.

Thnx.

Peter ( now I do have to update my season ... but will this effect my wheel
settings)

Sorry cant help much as I use Win 98 and Direct X 7.0A and have the gameport
USB wheel, but there must be people out there using your set-up for GP3.
Still any sort of install error cant be good - did you try reinstalling the
controller sortware? and perhaps no harm in reinstalling Direct x 8.0 again
after that.
I wasnt sure - the wheel is working in other games? aside from just the
profiler

Yes, with the same error. And there is no update(info) about that controller
software 4.0 on the Microsoft site, so far as I can see.

Maybe I try this in the hope it helps.

No other game on my system, no way.:-))

But my wheel seems to work fine with the patch 1.13 , but after instaling
"2001 Season Bigpack 3.0" from http://www.grandprix3.com/ I do have now the
same problem with my wheel. Only the controller (joystick) I can callibrate,
so my wheel isn't working now.

Is there another complete GP3 update for the season 2001? Maybe with another
one I can again use my wheel.
