F1 2002 Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel Question

by Farley Grange » Mon, 20 Jan 2003 10:31:49

Can anyone tell me how to make the Sidewinder Wheel work more friendly in F1
2002?  I'd rather have a brake and gas peddle instead of just lifting the
gas to brake.  And, I'd like to use the paddles to shift.  The default is
the buttons but I can't figure out how to change the settings.
Thanks
Farley.

F1 2002 Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel Question

by Dirk Diggle » Fri, 07 Feb 2003 21:34:49

I am also having a problem using FF with a Msoft Sidewinder FF wheel &
pedals.
I'm running this on Windows 2000 Professional Sp3, DX8.1 using the Msoft
Sidewinder FF wheel.

Hardware is Dual 1ghz PIII, 1gb mem, Nvidia GE Force 2 64mb card.

When I press the forcefeedback button on my Microsoft Sidewinder steering
wheel the wheel locks up and steers hard left!! The forcefeedback makes the
games unusable!

Any body got a fix or idea what might be causing this? There don't seem to
be any patches release for the game? Would I be better running W98SE with
this game?

I have no idea what's causing that, but I use an MSFFW in F1-2002 and
GTR2002 and it works fine.

Is it the gameport version or the USB version ? Forget using the gameport
version on anything except Win 98 or Me.

F1 2002 Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel Question

I went out and bought F1 2002 as I liked the demo. I'm running this on Win2k
Sp3, DX8.1 using the Msoft Sidewinder FF wheel.

When I press the forcefeedback button on my Microsoft Sidewinder steering
wheel the wheel locks up and steers hard left!! The forcefeedback makes the
games usable! Any body got a fix or idea what might be causing this? There
don't seem to be any patches release for the game?

I have seen others with that problem too, but I didn't pay attention to
the threads...perhaps posting this at the Racesimcentral forums might get
more response.

good luck

F1 2002 Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel Question

If I'm understanding your situation correctly, what you need to do is
this: Under the controller selection in F1 2002, assign shift up and
shift down to two keyboard characters. Then exit the game, go to
Control Panel and click on Game Controllers. Double click on your
wheel, and create a new scheme called "F1 2002." Under the Recorder
tab, on the two lines for the triggers (RT and LT), click under Game
Action and then type the keyboard characters you assigned for Shift Up
and Shift Down respectively. Click on Apply, and then exit Game
Controllers. When you start F1 2002 again, your paddles should work as
gear shifters.

If you later want to go over to GPL or NR2003 etc., you'll need to go
back to Game Controllers and select whatever scheme you use with those
games now. The F1 2002 scheme you created should work perfectly with
GTR2002.

Happy racing.

Oh, and as for the pedals, mine work as separate accelerator and brake
when the Game Controllers Pedals Mode setting is on Combined rather
than Separate, even though that seems illogical. Hope that helps.
