Did you get Starforce copy protection, installed unknowingly, with the
deal?

I have it (Starforce on my machine), but I don't have Toca 2/demo. I did
have Colin McRae 2 demo and the Thief 3 demo. I'm not sure where it came
from and I haven't tried to remove it, just yet.

Oh great! That stupid TOCA-RD2 demo silently installed three StarForce
device drivers on my computer, and they can't be removed by un-installing
the demo. Just what I need, more ***in the system that could cause
problems. The Codemasters site claims to have a StarForce uninstall file to
clean up the mess (files & registry), but I've been trying to D/L it for the
past 1-1/2 hrs with no luck.
Thanks for the link Michael, now I know I'll have to ask companies if they
use StarForce _before_ purchasing any game or trying any demo. If they
refuse to answer, like The Adventure Company (how's that for confidence in
the copy protection scheme they bought?!) then they don't get my money.

Ye gods... that demo is so out of here, including it's infernal copy
protection scheme!! -that just can't be legal... consumer rights
organisations should jump on this practise (I'll be contacting mine in the
morning).
Thanks for the heads-up,
Jan.

I downloaded it no problem just now. I've posted it to
alt.binaries.simulators.autos (I think anyway; first time ever uploading
a binary to a newsserver. It will be a good test for me to see how it
goes anyhow ;) )

Only the Demo on this PC
Deon
Thanks very much for grabbing that and posting it. Your test worked fine, I
was able to get the zip file and use the 'sfclean.exe' utility. The device
drivers appear to be gone, but there is still some ***in the Registry.
Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\ branch are
three subkeys: LEGACY_PRODRV06, LEGACY_PROHLP02, and LEGACY_SFHLP01. This is
with WinXP Pro. Dunno if these would cause any problems, or if it can be
left as dead junk cluttering the Registry a bit - there's lots of that
already I think. <grin>
Thanks again for posting the utility!
