N2002 shadow problem in D3D

I run N2002 D3D since OpenGL looks real bad and I don't notice a big
fps difference between d3d and opengl.

The only problem I have now in D3D is that the shadows of the car are
corrupt sometimes. 1 second all is ok, the next second the shadows
look very grainy.

It's not a big problem, but it would be nice if this can be fixed..

Geforce? If so try another driver. In N4 with D3D some versions the shadows
were ok and some they were messed up.

Ok, thx.. using 12.90 right now for my GF2 GTS, any version
recommended?

Quite a few seem to be getting good results with the 21.83 drivers.  I'm
using the 27.42 with a GF3, and everything is working fine.

Yes but that's with a GF3, and I believe the newer drivers only show
an increase in performance on GF3 cards, not on GF2 cards.
And the last days I'm reading here about how newer versions user more
and more system resources, apperantly causing conflicts with other
hardware/drivers who are trying to claim the same resources.

I tried some of those 2x.xx drivers in the past but never really got
better results, the reason why I stick to the 12.90 drivers.

Damn confusing, this driver mess we're in :-/

In know the 7.52/7.58 is the ones alot of people were having shadow problems
in N4 with in D3D, but beyond that I'm not really sure.

Oops.. I experimented with the 12.90 and the 7.58 drivers a while ago,
could be that I have the 7.58 installed atm instead of the 12.90..
Thanks, I'll double check when I get home and try the 12.90 again.

Hope so then you have an idea how to fix it. :)  Might want to use the
driver info to check and make sure all the driver files are 12.90 maybe
there is a rouge 7.58 file*** around.

Ha! 7.58 installed. Ok, here goes another long night of experimenting
with different drivers.. :)

Whoopy, first I run Detonator Destroyer, a tool that removes all old
nvidea reg entries, then installed 12.90. No more shadow problems,
even got a couple of more fps in N2002 (I think, hard to measure since
the fps varies to much in N2002)

OpenGL looks just as good as D3D on my GF3 and I get twice the framerate.
You've got to change the texture quality to 100 in the player.ini file, then
the textures won't be all smeared and blurry.

Really? I tried OpenGL first and it looked SO crappy. I'll try this
fix, thanks!

Not really a succes - here are my results:

At the back of the pack with 43 AI cars in front of me:

D3d: 35fps
OpenGL texture -1: 25fps
OpenGL texture 100: 4fps

I have a P3 500 GF2.. perhaps my cpu is too slow for OpenGL with
texture set at 100?

Yeah, it's time for a new computer.

>Yeah, it's time for a new computer.

Err.. I made a mistake, the p3 500 was my former processor, I have a
p3 866 :-/
Still too slow I guess.. but in D3D the fps is more than acceptable,
it keeps around 30fps with a full field in front of me, so I'll wait a
bit with buying a new pc.

Just weird that I get 4-5fps in OpenGL while getting 30 in d3d, while
I read everywhere that OpenGL is supposed to be faster..
