N2: Atlanta Setup

Im currently running two seasons (WC and Busch) and Im at Atlanta for both
series.

My problem is I cannot get the car to turn going into the corners.
Im currently running consistent 181.50's and running 15 - 23 in qualifying
and a little better in races. However... ive tried so many setups
and adjustments I forgot where I started from!!
I feel like Im running Modifieds at Flemington or Nazareth =)

Anyway... if any of you guys have any suggestions.. Id be grateful.
BTW... Ive already downloaded the setup guides from the Pits, etc and I
generally am fair to good at adjustments... I just can figure
this track out. Im not horrible, like I am at Rockinham ( I
hate racing that track!!). I just need to pick up another 1.5 mph
so I can get near the front.

Thanks in advance,

Scott B. Husted

I have the same problem as you. I have tweaked and tweaked my setup and =
can't seem to top 182 at best. I still can not keep up with the top ten =
AI at Atlanta. I too feel like I am driving on ice going through the =
corners. It doesn't seem to be a very realistic driving style, but what =
do I know. I have never driven a stock car at Atlanta. If it makes you =
feel better though, I race in NROS at Atlanta and fair pretty well with =
the inferior setup that we are talking about. So it appears that there =
are many other drivers with worse setups than us. I can hang with the =
top two or three in every race, however, there is always at least one =
driver who is always running astronomically fast. So there is a magical =
setup that we have yet to discover at Atlanta. If you find the magic, =
please share it with me. I would be forever grateful. (The solution =
could be spending $130 for a wheel and pedals. Man I hate spending that =
kind of money on *** equipment. I feel like such a loser when I do =
that.)

Without a wheel and pedal I doubt too many of the top racers can really
help you. Atlanta is a track where you turn into the corner and then kind
of turn again in the middle of the corner. You need to learn to kinda
half throttle - back off and then throttle again through the turns. This
allows the car to settle down as you go through there. If you do the
normal back off into the turn and then back on the gas in the middle of
turn - you will drift out to the wall. Now, keep in mind that the partial
throttle touch might be rather tough without a set of pedals - I am not
sure - I would never expect to be running really good laps without them.
However, 181.xx is pretty slow at Atlanta. I am not sure if the setup is
the problem. I adapted my setup from one I found on the net. I used
Pekka's setup (modified a little) for a while and then found one that
better suited my driving style. Pekka's setups are fast - but the Atlanta
setup was little loose and can be challenge when driving under someone in
the turns (for me anyway - Pekka can probably***past someone on the
inside). His setup and some other fast setups are available on the net.
However, the FAST or ACE setup can exceed 181.xx when driven right.

the kind of driving style you speak of with the halh throttle can also
be done with a joystick. i set my turning left/right, push left/right
of course and my gas-push forward, brake-pull back. works great if you
(like i) cannot afford a wheel/pedal combo.
it works well for me, i have a CH combat stick. its weird at first, but
once you get used to driving this way it pays off big time having
control of the brake/throttle resonse/control.
