N2 Atlanta Bug - PAPYRUS PLEASE READ !!!

I was running a 20% race in realistic mode at Atlanta when I came upon
this bug.

While runnung 12th, a wreck brought out a yellow flag after 31 laps. As
the pits opened, my spotter announced that the leader was pitting. I was
following all of the cars in front of me into the pits when the leader -
and ultimately everyone in front of me veered back onto the track at the
last moment. I went ahead with my pit stop as did most of the cars that
were behind me. At the time I was thinking that this "fake out" was a
great addition to N2. After my pit stop I was running 14th. The next time
around the leader also pulled the "fake out" move with no cars actually
pitting.

Right as I am getting the "pace car is in the pits" message from my
spotter, the leader pulls the "fake out" again just as we are going green.
This time however, seven cars in front of me do pit as we are getting
green! Worse than that, the remaining six cars in front of me pit at the
completion of the 1st green flag lap.

This effectively gave me the race as all of the faster cars were 1 and 2
laps down.
I ran another race at Atlanta and caused a yellow at 35 laps and the same
thing happened. If anyone at Papyrus would like the replay, I have saved
it.

I don't know if others have experienced this at other tracks or not.

Alan,

YES!  You have saved my sanity!  I keep seeing all these "AI is great"
lines in various posts, and I'm thinking my AI isn't great.  I've seen
the EXACT same thing  and it has been at Atlanta.  Actually, the only
course I've been practicing at!  Oh, I do hope it is just related to
Alanta, and not all the tracks!  Do you have any problems with the AI
cars going into turn 1?  It seems they can't "see" me there, and I'm
constantly wrecked at the same spot.  (even if I have the line)

Myself and several others have had this same 'event' happen at Atlanta.  It
seems to only be at that track so far (thank God).

It happened to me also.  Basically the same thing happened.  It ruined the
game for me because I would pit on the yellow and the other cars would wait
until the race went back to green and end up going a lap down.  I was
running 75% and ended up winning by something like 4 or 5 laps!

This is most definitely a bug and was reported to Papyrus a couple of weeks
ago by me.

Andy,

You are not insane! :)  I see the same thing happen at Tally and
Charlette.  If I see ANY portion of the AI car beside me, I have to
SLAM the brakes so he won't take me out.

Paul,

For some reason it NEVER entered my little pea brain to try another
track!  I spent some time at  C***te last nite, and it went fairly
well.   Someone else reported the same problems at Dover though, more
than one track might be involved.  At least I'm not crazy! <G>

Lannie,

It seems from some your note (and others) I may have over reacted a
bit. <G>  Others have confirmed the Alanta AI bug, but I do think I
need to "relearn" some driving skills. I've noticed that sometimes the
AI cars give the line up,  (maybe cause I really have the line) other
times they don't.  (maybe cause I don't have the line. <G>)  Overall
I'm very pleaed with N2, more so now that I KNOW others are having
some of the same problems I am. ;-)

It depends. The AI seem to be able to judge when the human should
"logically" have the line.  If you are really coming in strong or
"out-brake" them (as in turn 3 at Michigan).  They will give you the
line.  However, if you are pushing the envelope of trying to get through
a turn, the AI don't expect such "bone-head" moves and keep their line.
Carefully observe and practice practice practice.  Whenever I cause an
incident with the AI and I wonder what happened, I carefully analyze the
replay to see who/what caused it.  I also do the same for highly
successful passes.  Once you gain this understanding of the AI, racing
with them will be a joy!
