I've got 3 problems with GPL which I'm not sure how to fix and I'm wondering
if they might have a common cause. Any opinions would be appreciated.....

1. Sudden and very fast steering movements (to left and right). This happens
once every 2 to 3 laps and often when waiting for the green flag (lots of
engine noise). This is annoying as it can be enough to send me off the track
especially if it happens when I'm braking into a corner.

2. Engine sounds have background intereference/distortion. Sounds bad in
"outside view" and worse in car.

3. Online gear selection can be difficult - sometimes there is a delay after
pressing the upshift button and other times there is no gear change at all.
Also, the clutch doesn't work although it is fine offline.

My system is :-

PII 350 Mhz
64 Mb ram
8Mb Matrox G100 AGP card
12 Mb Diamond Monster vodoo II card
Soundblaster pci 64
Gravis xterminator (and tried Thrustmaster T2 with no difference)
Direct X v6

I've tried changing the poll with interrupts (as suggested in previous
posts) for problem 1 and also replacing GPL sound files and soundcard
drivers for problem 2 (as suggested at the APEX site) but no joy.

Any ideas ?

Wow, Andy, those are all tough problems that I've never heard of
before. However, my contribution to the hunt is that they all
seem to be directly related to the sound card... I'd suggest that
if at all possible you try a different one.

Just a shot in the dark, but I've got a similar system to you, except
I've got directx5 installed (heard too many problems with directx6 so
I'm still waiting till they iron em out!)

You could try going back to directx5? There is a utility out there
that allows you to go back to directx 5 (not sure where from though?)

For anyone interested..... (as if anyone reads messages this far down) ;-)

I just fixed problem number 3 by moving my modem from com1 to com2. However
problems number 1 and 2 still exist. The "jerky steering" is very
frustrating and I'm almost ready to buy a new soundcard even though my PCI
card is only 2 months old.

What's regarded as the best soundcard at the moment ??
