RASCAR: ***SERIOUSLY*** What have yellows ever added to a race??

Ive kept saying this over and over but no one seems to agree. I fail to see
what racing with yellows on has ever added to the fun of a race. We arent
playing for points or money, so I just dont get it.

The only reasons I can see for having yellows on are:

-When you crash, you dont get lapped.

Ok, but if you crash, you probably wont win, so what does it matter whether
you finish on the lead lap or not.

-Its easier to pit.

Yea, but pitting under green is way more exciting and FUN.

-Its easier to avoid a wreck

Not really, cause chances are you will encounter the wreck before anyone
slows for yellow anyway.

-The real guys do it.

Well, the real guys dont wreck so often.

All I am saying is i'd much rather end the race 10 laps down driving FAST
the whole time, than finish on the lead lap driving SLOW so much.

It's not a Nascar simulation without yellows... we can't help it if you trip
over other cars or lose gears.

my first rascar race, i have to admit i liked the feel of it.
A lot of yellows though. I pitted early and because of the yellows ended op
with enough fuel to end the race.
At the sixth or seventh restart (you lose count), JSimmons past me, and i
prepared myself for the others. Wasn't planning to give them a hard time,
but unfortunaly i maybe eased a bit to much and got a little bump from Dave.
Then everyone tried to ride trough me and I ended the race. Better luck next
time, going to find out who had won ;-)

Yellows make a BIG difference strategy-wise. When the racing stays
relatively clean it adds a lot of fun and e***ment to the game.

Sorry... bad English. "If people trip over other cars or lose gears", would
have been better.

And eh... these things cause accidents/yellows. I thought that was obvious.

Well done, Guido, but bad luck on not completing it.
Mark Seery won it.
'Twas a long session for me - up at 5:30 AM, finished racing at 8:30 AM!

I also enjoyed it; sitting back and watching others fall over all around me!
:)
I think I started about 18th. and ended up 6th., thanks to the incidents.
(Sort of reminds me of the fable of the hare and tortoise! :) )

And, as this thread is about Yellows, my tuppence worth:- I don't mind one
way or the other. It's just a game. :)

Bruce.

Pitting under green, or not getting enough chances at it, is a topic very important to me but turn off yellows on ovals and watch
the frustration of getting punted sore.

The number of cautions in online racing has always indicated the quality of the group involved.  As for RASCAR, considering its'
open membership policy, its turnover, and the abililty for members to drive when they can, RASCAR as a group does a good job keeping
the yellows down.

I've seen alot worse.

Like Jan said, cautions are part of Cup racing.  Pit strategy can still play a huge part in a fixed setup race.

I am wondering exactly how many people - not necessarily here, but of *all*
those racing across the internet - understand the basics of the terms "warp"
and "lag" and the effect that the numbers have on what can occur when 22
people are attempting to share a given "space".

Some of the vitriol which I've come across in a variety of pick-up races
over the past several weeks would indicate that the basic knowledge
regarding warp and lag leaves an enormous amount to be desired.

There is obviously a vast number of people who appear to think that a
data-derived and configured bounding-box sitting on a collection of bits and
bytes, all attempting to cohere, relocate and reassemble at the speed of
light as the signal is travelling halfway around the world through a
multitude of junctions, is the same as sitting in their car outside in the
street as they negotiate the neighbourhood on the way to the shop.

And in this blissful ignorance they scream blue ***y ***, cry "FOUL"
and*** you with cess-pit language when their collection of electrons
attempts to share the same piece of time and space as yours even though, to
their eyes, they are several feet away.

Buffoons!

Nice Rant Bruce!  I try to avoid this pitfall and hope others will forgive

I think yellows are pointless too. I mean, it is a *race*. That means fast
driving and overtaking, not 60mph laps in single file. Yellows just seem to
favour the drivers who get into trouble. Sure it's annoying when somebody
punts you, and it's nice in that situation to not lose a lap, but more often
than not, it's the, er, less consistent drivers (like myself) who get into a
spot of trouble, and if the patch allows yellows for debris, this is going
to get worse.

Why not just race, and if you put it in the wall, get/stay out of the way of
everybody else and suffer the punishment of going a lap or two down.

How about a little realism?

How about not being totally out of a race because someone else spun you?

I won't even get into how important it is as far as pit strategy goes.

Yellows are a necessary part of _Nascar_ racing.

Yes, Saturdays race sucked.  It sucked for everyone.  However, it's usually
_not_ like that around here and we typically do quite well when it comes to
yellows.

This race was not typical Rascar.  A combination of rather bizarre track,
not enough practice, to agressive driving in some cases, and Papy not
programming the Pace laps properly into the track all added up to a
miserable day for just about everyone.

I don't think any of us who wanted Yellows on had any idea the track
programming was so screwed up.  I know I, for one, would have forgone
Yellows in this case if I would have known it.
