RASCAR - Yellows Are Disappearing

by David G Fishe » Fri, 21 May 2004 21:02:48

Anyone who's followed the RASCAR saga over the past couple of years knows
that the main problem we've had was the number of yellows, and how to
correct the problem. This has led to...........well, um, a bit of
controversy.

This season, we've had two poor races, but are averaging just 4 yellows per
50% race in the nine others (one was an off week BGN race not counted in the
standings). We've just had four straight races with only three yellows in
each.

Very, very long green runs are becoming common now. We may have set a RASCAR
record recently with 188 straight laps under green.

I know good news doesn't grab people's attention as much as bad news, but I
thought this info might interest some of you.

I don't follow this like I used to, so how did you do it?  Yellows are the
bane of many leagues.  At V8 Thunder we introduced a finance system (I think
it was originally the idea of ESCORS?) which has helped somewhat.  Or is it
just that when you race for years with the same group of people they start
to actually get it into their heads that the cliches are actually correct -
"you can't win it a race at turn 1 but you can certainly lose it" and "to
finish first, first you must finish".

Here's what I posted over a month ago:
--------
We added Teamspeak which has helped the drivers become more friendly and
respectful
of each other. They can also communicate their intentions better on the
track, and explain their view of any incidents (or even admit fault)
which helps calm tempers during a race. It creates a good atmosphere for
racing.

The races are for points, which encourages everyone to look at the big
picture instead of going for it all in each individual race. Drivers
approach these races more seriously and intelligently (using caution is a
big part of this) because they are working towards a goal of a good overall
finishing position in the standings.

We run practice races before the main race.

There is a two self spins and park it rule.

The whole group has a say in what happens now. Just last week I wanted the
off week road course races to count in the points standings (for a number of
reasons). Mitch didn't. We had a vote, and my idea was voted down. I wasn't
happy about it at all, but that's the way we do things now.
--------

There's always been a group of drivers in RASCAR who've raced very clean,
but we've added some new, very clean and fast drivers as well, replacing
some who've left for whatever reason. The quality of racing has steadily
improved. The group as a whole has really done an excellent job of turning
things around this season.

Thanks a lot. Nice to know that I'm not really a Billy no mates :-)

I'll try to try to get to a few races later in the season but I'm tied up
with realising a few real life ambitions right now. I'm talking big expense
so I'm working all hours that god sends. It pretty much sucks but won't be a
permanent condition.

Regards to all

Nothing special, I've just been quite busy over the last string of
Saturdays and simply haven't had the time to attend, so don't worry, I
(and the yellows with me ;-) shall return!

Ditto, really. Just a string of commitments Saturday, which is set to
continue for the foreseable future, sorry. Would like to keep my number and
eventually return though (I don't have a layered file for my car
anymore...).
