rec.autos.simulators

I would appreciate comments from users of wheel/pedal combos...esp
those of you using TSW or ECC systems.  Are these (not inexpensive)
setups really worth the $$??  Seriously considering buying, but then
again, my trusty 3 1/2 year old CH Flightstick just won me the
championship in Nascar Racing at 99% difficulty.  Noticed a post the
other day from somebody at Papyrus who said, I believe, that 90% of the
folks at Papy use 'sticks, even tho there is an abundance of
wheel/pedal combos available at the office.  hmmmm....

I will add my two cents worth on the wheel question. I bought a T-1
about 1 1/2 yrs ago. It was a big improvement over the joystick. Just
the fact fo variable throttle and brake made it worth while.

The wheel was a lot of fun but know works like a set of hoosiers with
1000 mile on them. Its smoked...

I have also designed a couple other wheels using autocad that was pretty
hi tech. They used progressive rate cams and were built from heavy duty
industrial parts.

Well I will cut to the end I recently purchased a new extreme wheel and
could not be happier. This is it. I think there is other good wheels out
there like Thomas that work great. But if you want the Ultimate.
Something that is all machined parts, No welding. Something that is as
perfect on the inside as the outside. The Extreme deserves yout
consideration.

I found the Wheel faster within 10 - 15 minutes.  

The biggest reason to get a wheel/pedal combo instead of a joystick is
that it increases the "realism" of the sim.   It's much easier to get
lost in the simulator if you're controlling it the right way.   With
the joystick it always felt "like a game".   No matter which wheel/pedal
combo you buy, you should enjoy it more.

Improved performance is subjective (and secondary in my opinion, after
all, we bought the "sim" for enjoyment.     :-)
