It's sad. I love to watch Formula One, and I really enjoy GP2, but
I'd hate to see this as the final cut.
Remember the months before F1GP2's release? There were many rumors.
The most disturbing, to me, was that Geoff Crammond and MicroProse were
in a legal pissing contest. I wonder if their relationship has been
poisoned, and Geoff fulfilled the letter of his agreement, and has left
in disgust, choosing to have no further relationship with MicroProse.
Perhaps it is MicroProse which has terminated the relationship. I don't
know who owns GP2, or who is responsible for further development. It
could be that a split could legally prevent further development.
The above is an expansion of a rumor. For all we know, Geoff and
MicroProse are both happy, friendly, and busy working on a tractor pull
simulator.
The good news is that someone (Psygnosis?) is expected to release a
Formula One sim in December, and Visiware's Starting Grid is due next
year. Screen shots for both look great. Perhaps Geoff/MPS felt that
F1GP2, as good as it was, couldn't compete with these new sims.
We all love it, but there are valid criticizims of F1GP2. I want a
sim with track camber and bumps. Perhaps this was beyond the capacity
of F1GP2's code.
Thanks Geoff and MicroProse, F1GP2 added to my enjoyment when watching
races on TV. Good bye.
