Was listening to game time ( http://www.racesimcentral.net/ ) and they had an interview
w\ a guy who made Indy car 2. He didn't say much, but "a historical

I read about this in Sierra's Interaction magazine a few months ago,
only about 3 lines, but basically said it was "Based on a time when the
men drove the cars, not the other way around.  A throw back to the open
wheeled racing of the '60s."  Something like that.  Never could get
anyone from Papyrus to answer any questions about it for me though.
Judging from their past, I'd expect it out about 6 months after Nascar
2, I wonder when Indycar 3's gonna come out.

I can almost guarantee that a '60s style game WILL come out.  If you have InterAction (Sierra publication)
with Randy Johnson on the front,  turn to the Papyrus section (pg. 71).  Look at the
drawing board to your right with the words "(Above) Sandro Carella shows of the depth
of planning that goes into racing simulations."
Look at the artist's drawings behind,  you'll see very old helmets and Indycars
racing.

This is almost a guarantee.

Well, the only problem with this kind of game is that the cars just won't have
any performance.  Recently (past month or so) I saw a show on ESPN2 where
Emerson Fittipaldi was driving one of the Diamond-Star cars around a track and
noting that todays street cars make better race cars than race cars from
25 years ago.  Given this, how can I get e***d about driving an OLD car?!
IMHO, Papyrus would do much better to channel their energies towards an F1 sim
than something that few of us can relate to.

Clark,

Better race cars don't mean more fun. I think few of us could really
relate to driving an F1 car at the speeds the drivers do. We can however
relate to sliding around on snow, gravel and having tires that are only
about 6" across. I think you should wait to make your judgement about
this. This is something we asked for a long time ago... to drive cars
when you could slide them around the corners in a four wheel drift..
when the racing equation was more balanced between man and machine.

i think the point Emerson was making that the technology is obviously
better today so the car does more for you rather than you being able to
carry the car with technique.

Ahh, but those were the days when the driver made the difference.  I'm
sorry, but F1 is becoming a joke.  The disparity between the teams is
getting worse every year.  Go ahead, give me sim where men were men,
drivers were drivers, and cars were just cars.  Give me a sim where I
can have the opportunity to race some of the cherished tracks that have
been lost due to the high speeds of today's cars.  I'm ready...

Has anyone seen the new STB 128 Lightspeed. This is a 128 bit card that
uses a new technology called multi bank dram (MDram). This totaly opens
the bandwith to allow Dram to run faster then the Vram card (of non
multi bdank format). This is the fastest card the PC World has tested

lists for $229 (comperable price to the Dimons Stealth 64) and I have
seen Quantex has started to ship this with it high end pentiums. It
looks like the end of the 64 bit card is now!

Actually,I'd like to see Papyrus do a Sim on "Touring Cars"...
If anyone out there has ever watched a BTCC,Aussie or Euro Touring Car
Race, you'd have to agree that it is extremely competitive, racy, and is an
amazing spectacle to watch...It's real racing by the seat of the
pants, with alot door banging and outmanouvering...A real DRIVERS race!
Just my 2 bobs worth..:-)

My wife has a Geo Metro -- 3 cylinders and all... I have to horse whip it
(...the car, that is ;) ) to get it over 50 MPH. Makes me wish I had my
'67 Galaxie 500 with the 428 Cobra Jet engine again........
...Now that I'm older and more mature, maybe I won't get all those
speeding ticke... Yeah Right!

Yes...that would be right at home in a drag racing sim. I can't believe
that no major game company has picked up on the simple fact that NHRA
drag racing is probably second only to NASCAR in terms of growth in the
USA. NHRA also more nationwide appeal as they race in more parts of the
country than does NASCAR. For example, NASCAR has only one race in Texas
(and that just starts next year) as NHRA by that time will have four
national events here...and 100,000+ drag racing fans that attend each
event certainly can't be wrong.

All I have to say is that the first game publisher to actually realize
that most of the domestic market wouldn't give a game like GP2 a second
thought once a GOOD drag racing sim came out stands to make a LOT of
money. Personally, I don't care to play a computer game of any sport I
can't go watch live and F1 doesn't race anywhere near here. :)

Speaking of which, I think that'd be a great idea for a sim.  Let us
drive different cars (WSC, GT1, etc.) and for 24 hours (hopefully with a
save option.)
