Papyrus's new game

by Matt » Fri, 23 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Since I found USENET, I usually check this newsgroup every day, and I
have noticed that a heated topic of discussion has been Papyrus' new
game. Well, with all due respect to the drag racing fans who frequent
this newsgroup, I'm not sure how popular a drag racing sim would be.
First of all, a big thing for me is the sensation of speed, and,
depending on whether Mr. Kaemmer & Co. decided to drop frames or slow the
sim down (ala Geoff Crammond), the speed effect would be diminished.
Also, my informal market survey (me and my friends), indicates that the
market is for a sim that is instantly driveable, but which allows
tinkering to a certain point. With my knowledge of drag racing, it seems
to me that a few thousandths of a second can be the difference between
being competitive and going home. To me, this would be incredibly
frustrating. If I had my way (which is unlikely), I would like to see
either IMSA WSC or SCCA Trans-Am simulated, or maybe even a Runoffs type
game that allows you to compete in a variety of classes. If you like or
dislike my idea, let me know on R.A.S., but let's keep the discussion
intelligent (No "you suck" flames). Thanks.

yeah, i agree, i would like to race in a 911 with a bunch of 911s
or maybe the M5 against some audis and Hondas... remember
that Mario Andretti game from years back where you had to start
in sprints, then goto prostock, modified, GTP, F1, all the way to indy...

someone needs to expound upon that game with the technologies
of today... now that the processors and graphic cards can finally
keep pace...
