Let's solve the N2 patch problems!

OK, most of us here who run N2 have installed the patch and run it for a
while now.  Some people report few or no problems, and several others have
reported sudden lurching on several tracks, green glows, and setup file,
and other problems. Assuming everyone applied the correct patch, instead of
just ***ing about  something not working right or feeling smug because
things are working, let's do something positive to help us all--list which
version you patched to, what your basic system config is, whether or not
you've had problems, and what the problems are.  Maybe we can help Papy
find a common thread for those having problems, and what works and what
doesn't.

OK, here goes.  I'm a fortunate soul who seems to have everything working
OK.  I've seen none of the "warping"  others report and have used the setup
menu on most tracks with no problems. Save game works great.  I'm basically
happy as a clam with  the patch.  My system is a Dell XPS P133c, 512k
cache, 32megs, Sierra Rendition+Monster 3d, Thrustmaster GP1 plugged into
an AWE 32.  No overclocking, etc.  I patched version 1.00 and use
renddma.exe to start N2.  I normally run 25 cars ahead, 4 behind, sound on
3 cars, frame rate set at 28 and 20, all graphic details either on "on" or
"auto".

This isn't much, but maybe it will start something that will help solve the
problems some of us are having.  I hope so, because I'm having so much fun
with N2, I feel guilty about it, almost like doing something illegal!
Everyone needs to solve their problems so they can share the fun.  Hope
this helps someone.

Forgot to mention that I shutdown and restart in DOS to run N2.  May not
make a difference, but it's something I do to run ALL DOS-based games.  I
recommend it for all.

No Problems with the patch,

Patched to the older version and have not experienced any problems so
far except for the race dates thing (reversed) but I don't consider
that a "bug" for now. Very pleased with the patch and the fact that
the "savegame" feature was added and the Win95(b)/Joystick problem has
been fixed (atleast for me). I have not experienced any of the
mysterious "twitching" with the T2 on any tracks yet.

Keep in mind that the amount of ram and the type may be an issue here.
If you have added memory but it is mis-matched such as different
speeds or even the manufacturer not the same, this could prove to be a
problem which the "patched" version has uncovered as I'm sure
different functions are loaded into different memory areas now. - Just
my read on it so far, may or may not be the case.

BTW, I'm also running Nascar2 on a compressed drive and have used the
"patched" version both in dos and W95(b).

My system runs the patched version of N2 just fine in DOS.  However, in
Win95 my T2 just refuses to work properly.  No problem unless you plan
to race in the NRO.

Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire, Pentium 166, 2.5Meg HD, 20Meg Ram, T2 steering
wheel, I also re-start and run in full DOS mode.

I am using patch for version 1.0 since that was appropriate for my
version of setup file.

My T2 will not calibrate. In fact if I press the brake hard enough it
becomes the accelerator (this is fun on pit road and road courses!!!)

The values I get during calibration are not like they were. During
calibration of the steering I can watch the erratic jerks to the right.

None of this stuff was ever a problem prior to the patch. I have since
re-installed the game and all works fine now.

I was really looking forward to the patch and the upcoming NRO but I'll
skip it all if this is what we got to work with.

Jerry, you're much too reasonable for r.a.s., you are hereby banished. ;)

For the humor-impaired, that was a sarcastic remark. Actually Jerry, your
post is a refreshing change from the usual drivel. I was going to suggest
the same thing myself.

To those of you who might think otherwise, yes, Papyrus did test the patch
before sending it out. And it wouldn't have been released if they had known
it would create problems. I would suggest if you're having the "lurching"
problem, try deleting the CONTROLS.CFG file and the CALIB.VAL file and then
setup your controls and calibration again from scratch.

I'd report my status, but unfortunately I have a pot going bad and need to
replace it before I can evaluate the steering problem. Just hope I can get
it fixed before the ProHCS race tonight.

Packard Bell P100
  32MEG RAM, Screamin' 3D, Thrustmaster GP1.
The wheel plugs into the same card the speakers and
the telephone are plugged into.  The card came with the
    system.
  WIN95, Using renddma.
Applied nas2pat0 to version 1.00 error free.

Nascar2 ran great before the patch.
I race only on Talladega and Michigan.  I did edit my taladega.txt
to make more room in the pits, allow 39 cars, and I also installed
a patch from 'The Pits' that makes the AI cars not bunch up in T1.
I use downloaded setups on my cars.  I have downloaded many cars.
Other than that I've made no other changes.

After installing the patch I experienced the right jump thingie.

After reading this NG I recalibrated my wheel.  Unfortunately,
this didn't get rid of the right jump and it also introduced
the 'press too far on the accelerator and it becomes a brake' deal.

I removed N2 completely from my system, reinstalled it, applied
the patch and experienced the same thing.

I deleted the patched nasrend.exe from my HD and copied the
original nasrend.exe from the CD and the problem went away.

I am not that good of a driver to be able to deal with a lurch
to the right while in the middle of a turn.  I am very good at
painting outside walls and changing the body work on other cars
though.

Patched from v1.0 with a "clean" NASCAR2 (i.e., no "3rd party"
enhancements).  Minimum install (did transfer ATLANTA.DAT, NCHRLTTE.DAT,
AND BRISTOL.DAT to harddrive before patch).

P5-166 48meg ram  Award BIOS
ProAudio Spectrum sound card
Thrustmaster ACM card
Thrustmaster T1
Intergraph Reactor 3-D (aka Intense 100)
Run in DOS (but test in Win95) using NASREND in 640x480 mode

No problems with steering (though I may have experienced once).  No
calibration problems in either DOS or Win95 (I do not use the T1 axis
adaptor).

First off I don't have the lurching problem, however the thing I have
noticed is:

After racing back to the line for the yellow, I apply the brakes to
keep from rear ending the AI cars.

At this moment my car tends to "drift" right towards the wall.

Is it possible that the "lurch" is actually a momentary change in the
accelerator <-> break reading?

I always thought the drift under braking was a setup imbalance.

For those with the lurching problem.  A quick test would be to change
(temporarily) the break to one of the buttons on the controller.

If the lurching goes away it (probably) wasn't a stearing problem.

Let us know if this is even close.
