N2 3Dfx patch: 'Beta' means 'Finished'!!!

by Jeroen van Engelenhove » Fri, 20 Mar 1998 04:00:00

A lot of people are talking about (a lot of) changes they'd like to see in the
final release of the Nascar 2 patch. Well, wake up! There won't be a 'final'
patch!
All of the 3Dfx patches for non-3Dfx games I know, are called beta and are not
supported! You see, the companies give us these patches as a free service. As
soon as they call a patch official and final, people may turn to them for
silly questions like: 'The patch doesn't work alright' or 'I don't like those
strange lines across my screen'. And they don't want that to happen!
So if I were you I wouldn't count on any patch updates. Certainly not
considering the time it took to get this Nascar 2 patch on the Net! If they
want to fullfill all the wishes you people have been asking for in this
newsgroup, it would take another year to get the update ready! And by that
time Nascar 3 will be already out... (I hope...)

Time will tell if I'm right. And until then I'm quit happy with this patch.
Sorry if I spoiled your happy dreams...

So very true, people should just be happy that it (3dfx patch) came out at
all.
And to all the people that complain about it, that its not good enough: did
they have to pay for it? NO
It was free and Sierra did not have to spend the time to make this for us.
If any one doesnt like it, they should just go back to the way they were
playing N2 before the patch came out.

This I hear again and again: It's free, so shut up! Why the hell are you
not allowed to discuss the quality of something that is free?

BTW, I think the beta is already on par with the Rendition version,
except
for the***pit mess when using AA.

Well in all fairness I would gladly pay for a patch which was worth
a shit. This FINAL patch (which it most likely is) is not good enough,
especially with htose 2 lines in the***pit.

I will. And thank you for this public service message.

Are you for real?  I don't think those two lines are affecting your
gameplay, just something for you ***ers to cry about.  Go ask your mommy
for some more cheesy poofs!

May not be good enough for some of you, but Sierra is not asking you to pay
for it anyways.

Is this true?....I have heard that the 2 lines only appear in win95, they go
away if you play in Dos.
Any one have an answer for this?
Also.. I have heard that you cannot use any other calender files but the one
on the cd. is this true?

I am playing the game in DOS and the 2 lines are there if
anti-aliasing is set to =2. There is only one line if you set
the AA=1. The only way the lines go away is to disable AA.

Steve may not think it is whining, but someone certainly
will :-)

Ok, so that is a good way to know all the time which AA level you are
using then. ;-)

I get those two lines too, and while a bit distracting, that's all
they are really.

What else gets affected if you turn off AA? Any other graphic difference?

IMHO I really don't need or really want the 3dfx patch.  It doesn't
change the physics or the racing, it just creates more eye candy.

Ive read in here that one person was saying that he has gotten better lap
times already cause the game is that much more realistic. Wonder if that one
person was the only one that this has happened to?
I cant wait to try it out myself, but my good old Orchid I bought didnt work
so I sent it back and Orchid is supposed to be sending me a new one. It has
been over 2 months already......
The screen shots Ive seen look awesome though.
