You get jaggies again.

My lap times pretty much got worse...

I wouldn't jump off the deep end here. About all you get is less
jaggies and the same (or worse) framerate. The stands are faded,
no lens flaring, 2 bogus lines in the incar view. Eyecandy? No way.
The tire & engine smoke is a total freaking joke. It should be
wispy & billow and be transparent. It isn't. It looks much llike the
original game. I think they took the 3D features they had in the
rendition version and ported it to 3dfx. Nothing was added at
all form what I can tell. Also the Indycar rendition version completely
blows away the N2 rendition version by every account I have seen.
If either of those were done properly in Glide, it would blow away
the rendition version.

IMHO :-)

Just one somewhat critical point missed - a Glide version may indeed
be better, but how long do you think it would take to re-write the
whole N2 graphics architecture to properly support and implement it?
Given that someone was mad enough to decide on that course of action,
what do you think are the benefits for Papyrus or their customers?
None whatosever.

By the time you rewrite it for 3dFX no-one will give a ***about N2,
N3 being the sim of choice for NASCAR fans. Dedicating time to a
"perfect" implementation of 3dFX support would serve only to delay
future products, and is why I've argued against having ANY kind of
3dFX support in NASCAR2, never mind a time-guzzling, picture-perfect
Glide version. 3dFX support in N2 was demanded and supplied, and you
can be sure it was to the best it could possibly be done given time
and resource constraints.

Cheers!

Just because I am rather negative on this 3dfx patch, I fully
do expect N3 to have full native Glide support. In short I
completely agree with every point you made. I'll most
likely be purchasing N3 too so there :-)

It increases the frame-rate, which for a racer directly affects the
gameplay.

So I guess you'd like racing around boxes in circles?

I do not have the lines..I just installed the patch and ran N2. I didn't add
anything to my autoexec.bat file. Is AA on by default?

FWIW I'm a bit negative on the N2-3dFX patch as well, but then I
didn't think it was necessary in the first place! ;-)

Still, what is good is that it helps those with lower end machines and
3dFX to get improved frame-rates, but also it shows a commitment to
3dFX (Glide) as well as Rendition, and that is good for GPL and N3 as
you say.

You could always buy GPL as well just to get a taste of what N3 will
be like.... :-)

Cheers!
