Intergraph Reactor (DMA) question

Intergraph Reactor (DMA) question

by John Mela » Thu, 19 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I just (Yesterday!) got a Reactor card and now would like to run
Nascar 2 with the rendition mode.  Renddma does nothing except crash
very quickly.  (screen full of "pixel dust" not much more)

nasrend (alone) works fine, but (I must be blind?) I cant see much of
a difference besides a slower frame rate.  (Old card was a Diamond
Stealth 64 Video 2001 series).

I also seemed to notice that I can't use the univbe (ok, UVCONFIG.EXE)
as my video card isn't supported. (?)

-Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried running DMAtst or DMAdiag (get them from my webpage)?

BTW, you don't need the univbe, as the Reactor has on-board VESA 2.0.

Download a copy of DMADIAG from the Late Night website (URL in my sig). For
most people who have this problem, running DMADIAG prior to running NASCAR
2 fixes the problem. Also, you should download the latest Reactor BIOS from
the Intergraph site. If you can't find it there, I think Eric Busch has a
copy on his website.

I had the same problems (couldn't tell the difference between n2 &
n2rend / renddma=pixel dust) when I ran it in dos.

Windows allowed me to run it in renddma.  I haven't tried to hook my
steering wheel up to it though, so I don't know if it will be jerky.
Also I haven't tried to get sound to work yet.  but I was able to run
Talladega with EVERYTHING on 39cars 15 ahead, 3 behind.

Cyrix 686 P166, 32megs, Reactor.

for some bizarre reason, DMADIAG:
(a)     Crashes (locks up tight) when I boot in DOS mode (F8, option
6)
(b)     simply ends when I double-click in Win95 or by restarting in
MS-DOS mode (Start menu, end, restart in MS DOS) and MS-DOS prompt.

Suggestions still welcome, sorry about the delay

I had the same problem when I accidentally mixed up files between Dmadiag
and another application (I think Dmatest). I unzipped them again using
separate locations and the problem went away. My poor DMA performance
didn't go away though<G>.

Good Luck,

Sounds like maybe your system has a problem with 1st party DMA. Try hunting
around in your BIOS settings to see if there's a switch to enable DMA on
the PCI bus. Also, you might want to see if there is a BIOS upgrade for
your motherboard.
