N4 blown engines...

While we are on the subject of N4..seems like every other race I was in
tonight I blew an engine. One race I was alone chasing the pack, another in
the middle of the pack. What gives? The setup? Is this something that
happens easily and if so how to avoid it. I didn't seem to be doing anything
wrong except have the throttle to the floor.

without know more details like which tracks, what setup etc...I'd hazard a
guess you have too much tape on the nose and the engine is overheating.

One of two possible scenarios.  1)Too much tape.  Gotta watch your temp
gauge & pay attention to the temperature before the race!  2)Spending
too much time over-revving.  How long is that red light flashing on the
back stretch when you're in the draft?  Adjust gearing to compensate.
<Knocking on wood>  Haven't blown an engine since the patch came out.

Yes UF that red light is flashing quite a bit depending on track and set up.
I have been using down loaded su's for the most part. I will tinker with
them a bit.

Also check your setup(in garage) make sure you don't have the Qualifying motor
checked.  I had that once...don't know how it happened but the darned things
just don't hold up at all.

Another addendum to all this when you go into an online race check to
see if the damage is "moderate" or "realistic"... Realistic blows engines
much faster!!

I have had this problem a few times.. if you see a red light that
stays on for a while back off the trottle for a few seconds.. I know..
you lose position and probably will lose a lap if you have many to
go.. but you will finish the race.  I actually had problems around lap
50 in an 80 lap race at Daytona a few days ago and was forced to back
off the throttle every other lap.  While I did end up 2 laps down I
finished better than I started (people crash all the time and ruin the
game for others).

It's not about winning.. it's about finishing.

Agreed.  With the # of crashes & driver disconnects, just finishing it
vitally important.  However...  THAT is why I utilize the practice
sessions before the race.  Run a dozen+ laps in the draft & see whats
going on with your race setup.  Adjust to suit before the race & you're
good to go.  ;-)
