Engine losing RPM in N4?

by Robi » Mon, 30 Apr 2001 12:09:43

Has anyone else experienced the engine losing RPM at Talladega in N4? It
happens randomly but usually after turning a few laps in a test session (I
hate 'dega but I need the practise... ergo test session to perfect my line
through the corners) the rpm of the engine drops to under 6000 rpm for about
3 laps or so for no apparent reason and then climbs back to within normal
race pace for the rest of the session. All gauges are within proper ranges
(i.e.: temp, oil and water... pressures... etc) and I haven't brushed the
wall either.
This phenomenon occurs while racing the AI as well and it is annoying to
lose the draft due to this and then getting lapped because I couldn't catch
up. I was wondering if there is any parameter in the .ini files or some such
buried tweak that would alleviate this problem. It's not my controller
because I've recalibrated it many times and have used the "don't depress the
accelerator all the way" method as well. I have a newly refurbished TSW with
new pots and I have tried my brothers' TSW as well with the same results.
I haven't raced 'dega online as I didn't feel I was consistent enough at
that track not to make a mess of things for other people so I have no idea
if this problem will crop up online as well. If anyone else has experienced
this I'd love to know if you found a solution or just to know I'm not alone
would be good.
TIA,
Robin

I've never had that happen... sorry
Sometimes during races I'll lose a gear... I lost 4th in my race at
California with under 30 to go.  I had to run in 3rd gear the rest of
the race - lost a couple of laps to the leader...

tracks!
When I first ran N4 after the new patch the car would simply not accelerate in
4 th gear. I was way slow compared to the AI cars. I noticed the throttle and
brake calibrations were off center when I went to recalibrate my wheel and
pedals. This seemed to solve the problem. However, I don't know if it will
randomly reappear, as apparently happened to you.

I HAVE had the wheel calibrations kick out of whack after hitting the wall -
maybe I knocked the toe out  :)  but not the pedals.   I would have to go
back and recalibrate the steering to get it fixed.
