I've got to find time to dig into gp4 more.  Certainly the steering is
highly configurable so perhaps I can find info about setting up a logitech
FF wheel.  Driving the CART mod felt very strange...of course a-lot of that
might have been my unfamiliarity<sp?> with GP4.  The cars looked great..but
I don't have enough time to find out if it's gp4 or the mod that is wonky.

If it's an arcade game then why does it use such a complex physics engine?
I'd descibe it as a half-baked sim personally.  My definition of an arcade
game is along the lines of 'Daytona USA'

Or alternately, every single person who has driven a Winston Cup stock
car, or does so currently as their profession.

If you watch the DMP (or is it FLM?  I forget) truck broadcasts,
you'll see Truex and Earnhardt racing all the time, as well as a few
other drivers who pop in once in awhile (Kevin Lepage was in a race
recently).

And yeah, this happens on Sierra.  Anyone with a copy of NRTV or who
is familiar with the DMP website/forum can watch them race.

I think the term "racing kook" pretty much invalidates any point he
had to make in this thread.

Not this his utter ignorance regarding the topic being discussed
didn't accomplish that already.

BTW, Eldred, gotten that Ensoniq Mirage working yet?  I'm thinking
about picking up a rack-mounted one since it's a fairly unique piece
of gear and was wondering if you might know of any decent user
websites I could check out.

My take on GP4:

- Great graphics.
- Decent physics (not great, but I'm more convinced by the low-speed
and lateral grip and the way the car deals with off track excursions
and car-to-car collisions and so forth than the ISI F1 series, which I
view as generally superior in other respects)
- The best tracks in any F1 sim
- The most horribly antiquated game engine ever (Processor Occupancy?
Puhleaze...)
- I guess this is a symptom of the last point, but the most horrible
controller configuration ever seen in a racing title.  I've had the
sim since it came out and I'm still not 100% confident I have my wheel
setup correctly.

Scarily, I've seen photos of F1 drivers using it to practice
(including Burti in a Ferrari sim-cockpit in the garage at Fiorano).

Test driver for a team about to win their 6th straight constructor's
crown isn't a bad gig. :)

Nah, it's just hard for some people to accepty that ISI can do some
things better than Papyrus. Get used to it.

Because he is talking out of his arse. I've already conceded that
NR2003 is a better overall sim but I'm not going to let these Papy
weenies BS me and tell me NT2004 is an arcade game. I predicted in my
post that some people would react this way. This group is very
predictable.
