Hi guys...

I was the first person at the Grand Prix to drive GP3  (of which I am
suitably impressed).

I work for Hyper Stimulator and can get in contact with the GP3 designers
from Hasbo who are down here.  I had a long and extensive chat to Nick Court
(Producer of GP3) about as much as I could think of.  I'm not going to list
it all, because there is too much and I would probably forget most of it.

But, I will be able to answer any questions you may have about GP3....

And if I don't know, I will ask the Producer and the Head Technical Director
from Hasbro directly.

So......   List your questions here and I will endevour to make a list to
ask them on Saturday (now Thursday night).

Look forward to them.....

Ok, here I go!
What are the minimum system requirements?
What is the recommended system?
Will it be delayed again?
Will there be telemetry?
Has it split axis pedal support?
Will it be as editable as GP2 was? (carsets - tracks - ...)
Will the weather conditions change during the race?
Will we be able to steer the car in the pits a bit more?
Will there be a fully 3d rendered pitcrew?
Can parts fall off or break during a race? (like Villeneuve lost his rear
wing at Melbourne '99)
Will your race be over when you end up on your roll-bar?
Can I get a free copy before it's release? :)

I'll let you know when I find some more questions!

Can you stall the engine?

Please get them to make this an option, it would be so much better if
people could be forced to do 'proper' starts with a clutch pedal rather
than just slamming the accelerator down in 1st gear.

Well ehh..

Will force feedback be implemented, and if so,
what do they think about it? Will it be comparable to a sim
we all love for its FF :) This would really rock!

Will the replay system be similar to gp2 ?
(I really hope someone comes up with a util like gp2video
for this game, I just love it!)

My two cents/questions

Cheers

OK, here goes:

- How is the tyre model, does it transition as abruptly from the
slightly slipping to fully sliding as it did in GP2, making slides
almost uncatchable, can the car slip angles be better felt? Is the slip
ratio also modelled, as in, you guessed it GPL, where the revs drop
almost instantly when you release the throttle due to this effect?

- Is the tyre flexibilty modelled, at least in the vertical direction?
The tyre on most aero cars (like F1) contributes up to about a half of
the spring rate, so this is important. Does it depend on the tyre
pressure?

- Is there a formation lap?

- Are the gearbox problems modelled (i.e. the gear is stuck or certain
gears become inaccessible)?

I'm sure I can think of more, but perhaps later.

Greetings,

Gregor

Here's a few:

Did you notice if it was based on the fixed framerate/slo-mo thing that really
killed of any sence of speed in GP2 at a low spec system ?

How did the perspective look ? In GP2 I feel that everything is very small
compared to in-car shots at the GP's. This also reduce the sence of speed. I
don't know if anyone agrees with me, but I feel that GPL has a much better
perspective.

First of all: many, many thanks James!

Here we go:

- able to blow up the engine?

- 10s penalty system?

- which flags included?

- jumpstarts possible?

- can you disable the movement of the on-screen steeringwheel?

- brake-bias customisation from within the***pit?

- what happens when (front)tires are punctured. Can you spot it from
within the***pit?

- warming-up lap available? (and able to SKIP it?)

- pacecar? (seems not)

- dirt on the visor during the race/able to pull off "plastics"?

- more details regarding the annual updates that are planned?

- is driving with helps enabled guaranteed to be potentially slower
than WITHOUT helps enabled, or can you use them as an unfair
advantage?

- IMPORTANT! what about the internals of the graphics engine. DOes it
still allow "slow motion", when the processor tries to calculate the
number of fps you ask but is not fast enough to render them in time?
Instead of skipping frames, that is. This was THE biggest problem with
GP2.

- is the LAN option based on TCP/IP or IPX?? (might be possible to
hack TCP/IP to enable Internet play???)

- the specs talk about 4-16 (?) LAN players. Does this mean that there
have to be AT LEAST 4 players???

- does every player in a multiplayer game need a CD in the drive?

- does the CD need to be in the drive to play, or is it possible to
play from HD?

- are car-failures completely random like in GP2, or are they actually
influenced by how you drive?

This seems such an odd answer. What do you mean "I saw the file
structure"? Could you look into the files and notice that they were
structured the same as the GP2 files, for example not encrypted???
Talking about the trackfiles and textures for example.

Most important question is of course: do they plan to make the
non-core parts (graphics, carmodels, trackmodels...) more transparant,
or do they not bother at all, or do they plan to protect it against
hacking???

- What are thei feelings regarding the GP2-editing scene on the Net?
Are they even aware of it?

I'll see that I can come up with some more...

Greetings,

JoH

Can we please have driver arms with the wheel?  The wheel without the arms
looks wierd, and GPL has pretty much ruined me for anything other then arms
*and* wheel in my 3d***pit.

Also - If you could please mention the VRF Tactile Feedback Seat that uses
Intellivibe http://www.racesimcentral.net/ to the developers, I will e-mail Craig
Thorner of VRF and ask him to pursue support in GP3 as well.  This Force
Feedback Seat ROCKS in Nascar Racing 3 and is also supported in NL, MS
Flight Simulator and many forthcoming titles.  I believe that the more
feedback we can give the drivers of a virtual racing simulation the better.
"Seat of the pants" is definitely a step in the right direction.

Will GP3 have a feature like you get with GP2Lap which shows the
positions and times of the other cars?  If I remember GP1 had
this?

Will there be adjustable fuel mixture and break balance from within the
***pit?

<snip>

Good, that's the way to approach customers ;)

The only question that interest me is "Why do you have an elitist approach
over internet multiplayer racing? It has already been established with
Papyrus racing simulations that online racing with 20drivers is possible
without any big latency or warping.  I mean.. you guys have worked since GP2
is out, yet the advancement in this sim looks like it's going to be GP2 with
3d graphics.  Quite small for 4years of development".

Eh

Oh, no.  That's what General Westmoreland said about the end of the Vietnam
