% On Fri, 10 Mar 2000 11:15:26 +0100, "Stephen Ferguson"

% >CAN'T.... says who?  I am looking at the big picture.

The picture for me is that "racing" offline" is like masturbating and
"racing" online is the "real thing".  One will make you blind and the
other will make you feel sublime. <G>

I am sure I will enjoy GP3 for when I am not doing the "real" thing, but
I will stick to GPL (and possiblily F1 2000) for the complete
fulfillment they will bring online.

Geoff is either being short-sighted or just plain lazy.  Maybe he is
going blind from doing too much offline racing.... <G>

% There are big pictures and there are big pictures <g>. Right now, online
% play is pretty tiny, but will it stay that way? Maybe, but I think not. By
% not getting in on the act now, Geoff Crammond & his team are falling behind
% the market leaders. This is the sort of area where to learn what is
% required you really have to get it out into the big wide world and get the
% feedback; even a very extensive beta testing program cannot provide the
% level of information required. For that reason alone I would urge any sim
% developers to include online play - R&D is essential and it's a lot cheaper
% getting the buying public to do it for you ;-)

% Cheers,
% Richard

Of course, since I have the Force, anything in possible...
I sense much fear in you.  Fear is the path to the Dark Side.  Fear leads to
Anger.  Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to SUFFERING (and getting rammed up
the arse on VROC at starts hehe) ;-)

Got another one for ya:

The qualifying lapcharts screen in GP2 was way to small, only showing 6
drivers with their best laptime and position.   Has this been improved
at all, adding such touches as, a flag showing who's on track, what
their split-times are etc.  Basically allowing for more info to be
displayed on it.

Cheers!

>> Does it simulate engine braking?

>You back off.. you slow down  :-)

Ahhh, I was hoping you could feel the rear wheels lose grip when you
downshift, like in GPL.  Makes the car feel so mechanical and substantial.

Excellent!  GP2 already has the best AI around, in my opinion.
Unfortunately, that's not saying much.  Hopefully GP3 will be the first to
really seem human.

Thanks for the report!

since it's IPX, shouldn't it be compatible with Kali?

yeah.. the tire slip angle is much lower / faster than GPL.  Catch-able??
Yes.. I think it is.. although the controllers weren't setup perfectly...

Not sure...  but possibly

In the Alpha build.. NO..  but in the full build.. not sure...

The damage model has been extensively worked on.  But I"m not sure about
this.. from what I gather.. it is most likely to be modelled.

No probs..

In alpha build.. no..  full version.. YES

Not sure....

Not sure..

Possibly..  not in Alpha bulid tho...

YES!!!.. and this is a big thing.. they will enable you to do that..
(whew..  :-)

Not sure....

Possibly..  The tires are modelled in terms of Pressures.. and temperatures
(not modelled in GP2)

Not in the alpha.. not sure about full release

Probably not....

Not in alpha..  possibly in full...

The plan to release GP4 next year.. and GP5 the year after.. they WILL be
releasing a year 2000 patch later on...

It will DEFINATELY be slower with helps rather than no helps..  (I've tried
it :-)

There were some slow downs in the Alpha build.. but they will most likely
iron those out...

IPX only....

Not sure..  they hope for 16 players max..

not sure.. probably not..

not sure

not sure..

I mean that I saw the Win98 Explorer and it looked like the GP2 files with
an f1gamestat.sav  etc..

Not necessarily a bad thing...

Not sure...

They are VERY aware of it..  they do read RAS!!  and they do read teh
Grandprix3.com forums....

Not sure..  Wet track is featured.. with a drying line!!

Yes .. corners are cambered...

Not sure.. I don't believe so...

Yes .. TOTALLY remodelled..   to the extent that they are totally accurate
with the 99 times..  IE.. pole in GP3 is the same as pole in 99..  although
their licence is for the 98 season  :-(

But they are releasing a 2000 patch..

Probably somthing...

Nothing in the Alpha build.. but probably somthign...

Not in the Alpha bulid..  probably not in the full release either...

Not sure about the clutch.. I beleive it is modelled similar to GP2.. (not a
bad thing IMO)
