If anyone has used both, I would love to read a detailed comparison.

I had the new $100 Momo for about a week. The left paddle button got
stuck on so I returned it. I ended up buying  a refurbished leather
Momo for $93. I had been using the original Logitech  Wingman Formula
Force (LWFF) for the last 1.5-2? years.

The new Momo felt very solid but felt kinda geary. It may have
smoothed out a bit and I didn't dislike the way it felt, was just
different than my cable driven LWFF. The wheel was *** coated like
my original LWFF, felt good. The pedals were nice, much improved over
the crappy (IMHO) LWFF pedals. I use custom pedals but I could have
lived with the new ones. The shifter is a welcomed addition, plus you
can have it on either side. Overall this is a nice package for $100
retail. As I mentioned the left paddle button got stuck in the on
position so I returned it, stuff happens no big deal, but I didn't get
another one because it seemed like a lateral upgrade from my LWFF.

Ordered a refurbed leather Momo and it may as well have been new. In
fact I'm sure this unit must have been thoroughly tested before being
re-certified but only carries a 90-day warranty. I don't know if this
unit is cable driven or not but it feels a lot like my LWFF but also
feels much more robust and solid. I just smile every time I look at
it. Not sure if the center plate is aluminum but it sure looks like
it. The shift paddles are aluminum and they feel great, smooth travel
and a nice positive click on shifts. The leather on the wheel is just
plain sweet, quality material and stitching. The pedals are a huge
improvement over the original LWFF set since they pivot and just
better quality overall but the pedals on the new Momo are better in
design.

P.S. My LWFF is still going strong but now has a new home with a
friend :)

Thanks Adam...exactly what I was looking for.

What are you going to do for a shifter (or do you care)?  If the MOMO had a
shifter, I would have already bought one!  Then, only the pedals would be an
issue.  I don't mind the design of the Logi pedals, but the original LWFF
pedals just had too little travel for GPL or any game that requires precise
braking.  Is the MOMO better in that regard, or is it just metal and
pivoting, but with the same too short travel?

The old MOMO is on sale as it being recalled for the release of the new one.
I will grab one if the new wheel isn't so great, but then have to get a
shifter.  I don't mind the expense, there just isn't a convenient place on
my desk for all this stuff.  However, with the shifter (even moveable for
the BRM!!), "better" pedals and half decent quality, I would be OK with the
new MOMO, but only if it isn't a serious downgrade from the FFB of the
original MOMO, which is considered the best quality mainstream wheel.  So
please tell me more about the FFB and the pedals on your new/used MOMO
(compared to the LWFF which I am familiar with).  If they are great, I may
have to live with buying a shifter and figuring out where to put it and
grabbing the old MOMO while I still can.

Can anyone compare new MOMO to original in terms of quality of FFB?

by Adam » Fri, 08 Nov 2002 11:07:24

Hard to describe the difference between the quality of the FFB, but as
I mentioned the leather Momo feels smoother more like my LWFF but
better. The new one felt a bit stiff, kinda geary. It may have broken
in after a while and gotten smoother. I liked the wheel a lot. Very
good pedals, the wheel has good ergonomics, shifter, good
clamping..$78.02 from buy.com, a tremendous value.

That being said, all I was after was a better wheel. I don't care
about a shifter or pedals. I might get the actlabs usb shifter but
probably won't bother, I'm just so used to paddle shifting and button
shifting before that on driving games.

I'm going from memory on the old LWFF pedals because I pulled the
wiring harness from them, hard wired my custom set and then chucked
Logitechs. In the short time I used them I recall them having very
short travel and tiny pedals. They made my ankles ache after a few
minutes and I had no control over fine movements. The leather Momo
pedals have more travel (I think). I didn't try GPL but had no problem
with feathering the gas or brake in Rally Trophy. If I gave a letter
grade to the 3 pedal sets they would be LWFF: F, Leather Momo: C+, new
Momo: B

Ask over on Wingmanteam.com about the travel or any technical
specifics. They are really good about giving fast, frank responses.

Interesting.  My initial impressions of the original Momo were that it felt
too notchy or geary compared to my LWFF.  Maybe some long term Momo owners
can let us know if this eventually frees up a bit.

Is the build quality similar to the the LWFF or more like the plasticy
LWFFGP?

I think all of the gear driven jobs need time to break in.

My MSFFW felt like it had gravel in it until it was used for a week or so.

Now, 2+ years later, you can't even tell it uses gears any more.
