Logitech MOMO Force compared to Guillemot Ferrari FF Wheel

Logitech MOMO Force compared to Guillemot Ferrari FF Wheel

by Fountainhea » Sun, 03 Aug 2003 00:28:16

I have had the Ferrari wheel for some time, and I've always liked it.
However, I've gotten a new desk, and the Guillemot's clamping system is
sort of a pain on the new desk. I can make it work, but it is annoying
and time consuming. The Logitech MOMO Force seems to have a clamp better
suited for what I need. Has anyone used both of these wheels? Is the
MOMO the equal of the older Ferrari wheel? I wouldn't want to trade
down.

Thanks.

My previous wheel was the Guillemot Ferrari and now I have a MOMO Force.  No
comparison.  The MOMO is better in every regard.  The software also actually
works, unlike the Guillemot.

I agree completely. I had a TM F1 FF for about 3 weeks, but the throttle
pedal broke & I swapped it for a Momo Force (Red one).

The TM wheel was well built & sturdy, the pedals had decent travel but were
a little too heavy for my taste, and as it turned out, the base was flexing
under the pressure & eventually (after 3 weeks) broke.

In comparison the Momo feels similarly well built, but the paddles are
separate and I preferred the single bar of the TM wheel. The FF on the TM
wheel was pretty good, but the Momo is far superior imo & much quieter too.
The pedals aren't as well positioned as the TM ones, but the springs are a
better weighted imo and the travel is long enough for me.

The TM software just plain sucked though, it was really crap, crashed alot,
and the setting for split-axis pedals is buried in the profiler, so you have
to set up a profile for every game. The Logitech software is much more
friendly, the split-axis selection is universal too, so if like me you don't
use profiles, it's alot easier to set up for several games.

I've had the Momo for several weeks now, and it's proved to be reliable,
stable & solid. My only gripe (apart from the paddles) is that the desk
locking mechanism doesn't look like it will last more than a year or so, but
the TM F1 FF felt no better to me.

Saw your post, honestly, i wouldn't touch
Thrustmaster/Hercules/Guillemot anymore. The company is about to
close. I used t work for them, about a month ago, they laid everybody
off from North America, and the rest of the world also. They kept a
couple of people to "finish off projects" to be released and generate
that extra cash. There are no testers, no new drivers will be released
for any of the products. Support is hardly any, there are two people
to do support/RMA's for the WHOLE WORLD. They changed their contact
information, try to find it. They make you have to register the
product, then you get the support phone numbers and support emails
addresses, but guess what, it doesn't work, that is because there is
no web team anymore. All in all by sept, Guillemot will be no
more,save yourself alot of headaches

Sad news.... I still have my trusty Guillemot Ferrari FF, almost 4 years of
abuse it has taken now, with not even a change of pots.
Thats QUALITY for you !!!

Sure the pedals are getting a bit wierd and some buttons don't work unless
the wheel is not turned... and it's making soft moaning noises now like it
really want to be retired. But it's my companion dammit, I have never owned
any other wheel, this one has followed me from my first small steps in
simracing, up until my current status as a veteran driver in several
different sims.

Hi my name is Mikkel and I'm a Guillemotoholic.....
If anyone has a new or almost new Guillemot Ferrari FF I'll be happy to buy.
I wanna make a huge pile of them so I never have to drive using anything
else ;)

Mikkel

Logitech MOMO Force compared to Guillemot Ferrari FF Wheel

The Springs broke for the third time on my Ferrari FF wheel a few months ago
but Thrustmaster had run out of replacement spring (no wonder as they're now
going out of buissness) so I replaced it with the Red Momo Force which I
must say is fab. It's better in every respect. It's got fewever buttons
which i sometomes miss but with the software you can go "shift" combos. I no
longer miss the shift stick becasue I've got a proper GPL usb shifter which
is a great addon fo the Momo. The peddles might have short travel but are
very sturdy and a pleasure to use (especailly if you replce the break spring
with a squash ball). The FF is very good on the Ferrari but better still
with the Momo. Overall build quality on the Momo is better than the Ferrari
and you get leather covered wheel and sturdy metal paddles.

Go for the leather Momo you won't regret it (and get hold of a GPL usb
shifter if you can)

As a recent former Thrustmaster employeee, i agree, get the Mono. All
the Thrustmaster FFB wheels have major spring issues, motor issues
Shifter paddle issues which most they do not have replacement parts,
btw, try to get support or warranty now, no wonder Guillemot went out
of business

I couldn't agree more.

I did the same upgrade almost 2 years ago when the momo first came out. My
Thrustmaste Ferrari FF had broken just about everything in 3 months of use.

My Momo is still perfect after almost 2 years of hard use, and has plenty
more life it in. I bought the Momo on the grounds of quality, and it paid
off.

The only adjustment needed on the momo was a tightening of all the screws
when it was about 2 months old. I understand that this is a common problem.
One***holding the motor to the wheel had come completely loose, so I
torqued up everything inside my wheel, and its still as tight as a drum now.
