FF in win2k (logitech wheel)

by Jonas Mellquis » Mon, 24 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I can't get proper force feedback in win2k at all - I have the logitech
FF wheel (sweeet) and; Yes i get forces in the test screen, Yes the
power actually works,
Yes the two green lights work

I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server
All my other system Specs are at http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Ok here is my test...

I'll now try the new EA F1-2000 with the wheel:
setup->controls
everything is setup to use a Game controller and Force Feedback
On to the game..
in the game I try and drive off the course -> no FF whatsoever -  the
wheel
has no auto center and nothing happens when i slam into walls ect...

Next game up is the old, but still kewl Colin Mcrae rally.
Dooh - just found another game that won't run under win2000 :(

Ok then I'll try Rally Championship 2000
New game, should work....
No FF at all - kewl game though - can't wait until i actually get FF in
it :)

Next up we have the completely new game Rally Masters from
Infogrames.....
When I bump into something VERY hard the wheel makes a small sign of FF
but
still no auto centering or any shaking when i drive on grass ect.

Next game up is the best FF game I've ever had
Official Formula 1 Racing 98 - old, but still great
:(( - just found another game that won't run in win2k

Next game I have is Toca 2 - Touring Cars
WOW finally some auto centering (way to much, but it was there:), but no

other FF signs.

Last game I have that could use FF is battle zone II
Hard to set up but it has small signs of Force Feedback when I like in
rally
masters bumb into something

Here are all the things in registry that has the word wingman...

Am I doing something wrong here or what?

The logitech wingman team homepage claims that win2k has drivers for the
wheel but why won't they make any software avaiable for win2k :(
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

What about other FF wheels - are they supported by win2k any better than
my logitech ?

FF in win2k (logitech wheel)

If I am not mistaken the Logitech wheel won't work under win2k...

ps. If you're a real gamer going to win2k is the biggest mistake you can
make... If you really want to be able to play all your games you should have
stucked with Win98...

FF in win2k (logitech wheel)

yes i'm slowly beginning to realise that :(

It still sucks that logitech hasn't released drivers though - same thing
as a lot of creative products

FF in win2k (logitech wheel)

by D. \ » Mon, 24 Apr 2000 04:00:00

This is a load of hooey!  Win2k comes with drivers for the LWFF built in....
The only problem is MS decided to only support their version of force
feedback "out of the box".   The new driver for the LWFF (with force) is
very very near release.  From what I hear, it was nearly released this week,
so it wont be long now.

Games with Win2k.   You're sorely mistaken...   There are very few games
that do NOT run under Win2k.  F1 2000 runs perfectly... as well as GPL,
RC2000, Motocross Madness, Midtown Madness (with force as well), and many
many more race sims.

I've got a dual system, and some games even run in SMP.  You cant do that
with win9x.  I wont even mention the improved system stability & ram
optimization.

Dents.

Hi,

I am currently dual booting 98 and 2000. Do you find that GPL and F1 2000
run faster under 2000? I haven't tried as I also have a LWFF. I am possibly
upgrading my machine and I'm wondering if it is worth going for a dual proc?

Cheers,

Scott

Still... the Logitech won't work properly... So, what's your point?

ooohh... difficult choise.. Running win2k ans some games might not work or
run win98 where I know all my games will work... So, what's your point?

And what's the use of racingsims when your wheel isn't working properly?

Only usuable when you have problems with your games in Win98, which I
haven't.... So, what's your point?

ps... Why are you attacking my point of view?

True.

Logitech should have released new drivers (and a profiler) for Win 2000
*ages* ago.

My WingMan Formula (black, gameport) didn't work properly with the WingMan
drivers on the Win 2k CD.  :-(

I found F1RS ran *better* with Win 2k than with 95/98!  :-)  TOCA 2 also
works fine.

Actually, I couldn't get GPL to work.  The installer moaned about
wininet.dll (or somesuch) and when I tried to run the game, it failed.

Oh, and my WingMan was just too iffy with Win 2000... SCGT, F1RS and TOCA2
all had 'issues' with the game, mainly with respect to steering.

Perhaps, based on his own personal experience, he disagrees with your
point of view.  If somebody disagrees with you it is not necessarily
attacking your point of view.   Thinking the voicing of an opinion
contrary to your own is some sort of attack smacks a bit of
paranoia...

You have to use the OpenGL patch to get GPL working in W2K.

Not necessarily...  I installed the 3DFX patch, and play GPL under Glide in
Win2k with my old Voodoo 1 board.

How did you get Toca2 working? I can't get the setup program to
recognise my Voodoo2 card, and the old millenium in the machine isn't
useable with Toca2. The Voodoo2 card definitely works as I have Quake2
and other stuff running fine.

yeah.. but when he shouts "This is a load of hooey!" then I can't really see
that as a nice way of saying "I don't agree"....

I just got this reply on the winmanteam BBS

--------

Thanks for the detailed mail with list of games you are playing
...etc....

We will have a beta on our site in mid-May. It will have updated Win2000
drivers and custom control panel support.

--------

So I guess we have to wait 1 month more MAX :(
