From V5 to Geforce 2 Ultra

I am changing my V5500 voodoo card to a Hercules Geforce 2 Ultra in the hope
of better frame rates on my Althon 900 (particularly for Nascar 4). Has
anyone else done what I am about to do, and can put my mind at rest that I
will indeed have better FPS, and also a good picture quality (because using
FSAA, the voodoo card had a good picture quality, if not speed).

Thanks in anticipation.

I made the move from V5 to Ultra, and believe me, you're doing the right
thing!

Just wondering, what is the price difference between a GF2 Ultra and a GF3?
If it's not too much then maybe a GF3 would be a better bet since it's FSAA
is considerably faster than a GF2.

I bought a GF2 Ultra a month or so ago.  I hated it.  I never got half
my games to run correctly (including N4) and got sick of juggling
driver versions.  The 2D sucked, too.

The only reason I got it was because I couldn't find a V5/5500
anywhere for a couple weeks.  I found one a couple weeks ago and
snapped it up.  It is wonderful. I like being able to run nearly any
game without changing the drivers first.  Frame rates are fine.

My first experience with Nvidia  was very negative and I am not likely
to bother trying them again unless I have to.  I hope ATI gets the
Radeon series straightened out.

Pretty strange experience you had.  I have had not one single driver problem
with any game using nvidia.  You sound to me like a Voodoo plant!  I was a
3dfx man for years going through a Voodoo 1, 2, 3 and 5 and the nvidia Ultra
is a vastly superior card in every way - including 2D.

You just lost all credibility with that last comment. You were doing
good too.
