GP3? F1CS2K1? or F1RC?

by Thom j » Mon, 26 Mar 2001 13:01:18

As my post Subject states "GP3? F1CS2K1? or F1RC?"
I have all three and like GP3 but I cant seem to use split-axis in GP3
with my Guillemot Ferrari FF Race Wheel. Have F1CS2K1 and the
other EA F12000 etc. and it seems fine! I like the "race type school"
kinda' nice.. Now F1RC: I just do not see what the big "hub-bub" is
here? I don't know if I have it setup wrong but it doesn't look or run
as good as GP3 or F1CS2K1.. What am I missing or have I set the
sim up wrong??.. Any & all will be appreciated..Tia..
Cheers Thom_j.

GP3 does work with split axis on a Guillemot Ferrari.  Select 'control
driven calibration' before calibrating, and split axis in your Guillemot
software (through the 'controllers' icon in control panel).

I think F1RC looks MUCH better than the 2 others....

Control is also better, on my at labs wheel I can feel a small move just
before the car is about to lose the front, just like in real life when you
start to be on the shoulder of the tire and it "jumps" a few times before
letting go...

"O" I forgot something Simon? I can only use paddles on the Guillemot
Ferrari FF as I can't use my feet and only partial use of my legs. So for
some "odd reason" I have done everything you stated but [A] still can't
seem to get split-axis for my paddles &  [B] GP3 seems to only let me
use the left paddle for gas. I use right for all other sims! left for
brake..
Any ideas suggestions? Tia... Thom_j.
P.S. I never connect the pedals to my Ferrari wheel either..

Really Txl? Hmmm? I wonder if it my Graphic's Card? I have an Asus
Geforce2 GTS.. The controller feel via my "Ferrari FF wheel," I see a
little but nothing major. Thanx for the reply.. Cheers Thom_j.

Hi,

it would be hard to select a clear winner, but since you have a FF wheel the
choice is easy; GP3 is the only one that actually translates the forces on
the wheels to your FF device, and it boosts the immersion and control
dramatically. For others, I cannot say anything but failure in this regard.

Well, yes, in the demo, and reports on High Gear tell me that this
hasn't been altered in the final version.

It all depends on the wheel. The MS ones seem to be the worst in this
regard, but my Logitech FF GP on USB handles it brilliantly.

Did you do anything special to alter the FF in GP3? I agree it does
have better ff than f1cs and f1rc, but compared to.. -do I have to say
the word- GPL, ff in GP3 is also not really spectaculair on my system.
I also use a LWFF on usb.
Is there some ini file to modify the ff settings just as GPL has?

Hi Andre,

as far as I can tell, GP3 transmits the lateral force on the front
wheels to the FF mechanism, while GPL gives directly the aligning torque
on the wheels. Both of them are somewhat off the mark, as GP3 gives one
extreme example of what the feeling would (realistically) be with a high
cater angle, while GPL appears to operate at zero caster angle. That's
why they don't feel all that similar, but both are quite realistic and
useful, especially when trying to do opposite locking. Try Nascar 4 (or
the demo) and play with the caster angle from 0 to get a GPL type
feeling or set it to the maxumum to make it feel more like the FF
effects of GP3.

Apart from that, be sure to set the steering speed sensitivity in GP3 to
zero, as otherwise this will not create the large forces at speed since
the steering ratio will change.

Final version is good for me.  Wheel lightens up when going over high kerbs
or losing grip, and there is real feedback when losing grip or back end.
The best FF outside of GPL.
