I am getting a P200 today. I have 32MB of RAM and a Intergraph Reactor
card. I was using a P100 with 32MB RAM and Reactor. I had to turn almost
all of the graphics off to run in SVGA before. Will I be able to turn
everything on now?????

Were you using the Renddma version? You should have been able to get
decent framerates on your P100 with most of the details on.

I'm running a Dell Pentium 200, with 32 mb SD-RAM, #9 3-D 2mb EDO-RAM ViRGE
card. I have everything except asphalt/grass turned on (with 39 cars
drawn, 5 heard) and get frame rates around 25 except for the start of
races, where it drops somewhat.

I can not understand this I also have a P 100 but with 16 meg of ram and
only a 1 meg video card,And I have ni problem with running all cars and all
graphics put the on position not off or auto but on at all times.I ahve my
frame rate set at 30 and 30 and I have the cars seen ahead at 12 or 16 and
3 behind andf I have the cars heard at 2 and mine runs excellant no
choopiness or lag time or anything it runs perfect and looks perfect just
waiting on my renditin card now. Please explain to me why everyone that has
a faster computer than me and more Ram than me or the same computer speed
as me has all theses problems where my computer will run Nascar 1 GP2 and
N2 and any other game in SVGA with no problem at all.

You better because I have a P133 & Reactor and I have everything on
plus added more visable cars than the defual suggests.
Q.B.M.
I am just wondering what you mean by ' looks good ' and ' perfect '. If I
am not mistaken, and I apologize in advance if I am, if you set your
graphics to ' On ', it doesn't matter what you set your max and min frame
rate at. That graphic will always remain on.
Once upon a time I had a friend who told me how ' perfect ' Nascar 1 ran on
his system in SVGA mode. I went to see this ' perfect ' running game he
had. Big difference in his perfect and mine. On my systen, N1 in SVGA
would run great with all cars ahead and behind, and all options set to on,
with the exception of the grass, which I dislike anyway, and the asphalt
which makes me dizzy. With his, he had it all on, but there was a very
noticable chop to his display.
Perfect, to me, is the way ICRII Rendition runs on my P5-120 with 24 megs.
All cars ahead and behind, and graphics set to auto. The framerate stays
up around 30 fps unless in a terrible crash, or on a restart. But even
then it stays around 25 or better. N2, on the other hand, well.......
let's just say it isn't as fast as the ICRII version in Rendition mode, but
runs almost as well as N1 when just using the SVGA mode.
Perhaps I am spoiled or something, but ANY chop is unacceptable to me. It
starts chopping, and stuff starts getting turned off.
Actually, I wish you could explain to me how this could be possible. My
computer runs those games with ' no problem at all ', but running them
isn't the same thing as enjoying them.
Strangely enough, it's probbly the 32 meg of RAM that's killing his
performance, since N2 automaticaly loads the 8 bit car set if you have
enough RAM. I've noticed a huge performance hit when you go from the
4 bit to the 8 bit car sets, so I did some fiddeling with my memory
manager to keep n2 from seeing all of my RAM. Hopefully better
optimization for the rendition will make this unnecessary, because I
run the 8 bit car set with no problems in ICR2 (P133, 32 meg).

The rendition version of N1 will run faster than SVGA if you use
renddma and the 4 bit car set. Your right tho, nowhere near as nice
as Indy.

The 30 30 frame rate you are talking about is for the auto features. If
you set some options to auto, the first is when to turn off textures and
the second is when to turn them on. ex. 20 25: if you set clouds to
auto... if it drops below 20fps it will turn it off and if abouve 25fps
it will turn them on. If you set everything on, those numbers don't mean
anything.
Please explain to me why everyone that has
Do you have it set on 320x240 or 640x480?

Stop on by, what can it hurt?
When did they release a Rendition N1? :-)
Actually, N2 runs PDG on my system since I upgraded the BIOS. Still have
to reduce the number of cars, but the smoothness has returned.
Actually now that you mention it, there was an internal Rendition
version of Nascar1 when Papyrus was testing out the 3D accelerators (it
was never released). I believe they were playing around with a quick
port back in Oct or Nov of last year (at least from Quotes in press
releases I've read).

I wish people would indicate what tracks they can achieve these rates
on. Even on my P200 I have to turn stuff off at Bristol to achieve a
good rate, yet at Tally I can run all and everything. It's the same as
GP2, the rate will vary enourmously from one track to another. In that
game it was the volume of scenary that hurt, in N2 it seems more
related to the lateral rate that the stands etc move when going round
corners. Basically, the smaller the oval the worse the frame rate.
This is all SO subjective that we should establish a common test setup
if we are going to compare frame rates (similar to Quake's TIMEREFRESH
command). We need a standard track, no of cars, sound setting etc to
be able to compare things. Saying 'it runs well' is just pointless -
My friend is an 'eye candy' man and has everything on and gets about
10-12 fps which to me is totally unplayable. I am not as bad as some
on the group who have stated that less than 30 fps is unacceptable but
I do like to be over rather than under 20.
Until we agree on a standard we are just wasting bandwidth with this
kind of thread.
Sorry.
<<My friend is an 'eye candy' man and has everything on and gets about

That's like trying to drive after five Jagermeister shots. Ugh! The
biggest frame-rate hog besides the asphalt/grass is crowd detail. With
crowds turned off my P166 runs just fine at nearly all the tracks. I'd
much rather have smooth gameplay than eye-candy. Choppiness leads to
engine damage IMHO.
I have a Pentium Pro with 64meg EDO and a Reactor card and
I can run everything on with full cars ahead and 6 back with
30 frames per second at any track including Bristol in Multiplayer
via Network and Modem.
