I'm running a Packard Bell P-60 with overdrive to P120 , 32 meg of
ram,256 cache, 2 meg vid memory on the built-in cirrus card, running
withUniVBE. Did a frame rate test at Michigan with all graphics
turned on, except grass and asphalt textures, set skids/paint to auto
to get the frame rate. Did the testing on pace lap and start of race
with 3 heard, 3 behind, 640 x 480 graphics, starting at the rear.
With 6 ahead got steady rates of 14. With 21 ahead got steady rate of
11. Took the 21 ahead to Bristol and it dropped to 10. Almost getting
too rough to play. I found that the best improvements in frame rates
are achieved by limiting the cars ahead. But I like the looks of all
those cars layed out in front. Frame rates of ten get a little rough
but at Bristol they thin out quick and the frame rate climbs fast...so
it's a fair trade off for me. Don't know how those low frame rates
would effect your driving in real (not AI) competition?
