AAAGGH!H!!!

Very annoying..  I get 33fps.. then 36fps.. then 33 then 36..  (you get the
idea)

Makes driving very hard as it is very stop-start...

I have found a slight fix tho..  if I get a good connection ONLNIE..  it
seems to work out a bit better.. still is slightly fluctuating.    but not
as bad....

Any fixes???    Clock Adjust Delay??    CORE.INI??

works GREAT OFFLINE..   I have Voodoo 2 SLI and 333  Celeron with a 56k DUN

Hey James,

I found I got inconsistent frame rates with an internal modem. Go to Modem
Properties and disable it if it is internal when you play gpl.

Hope this helps,

A difference of only 3 fps should make no difference at all in visual
quality.
I sometimes have as much as 27-36 and keeps differing depending on what
graphics(trees..etc.) and cars are around, and I have never seen any
"stop-start" and driving is fine.

Your "stop-start" must be down to something else.

That's a personal feeling I guess.

Perhaps it does not smoothly go down to 33fps but holds off for a
couple of frames so the next reading reads 33fps because of a couple
of paused frames.
THAT kind of stuttering is VERY irritating, I can tell.

Pickard,

I think you're imagining things.  It is highly unlikely that 3 fps either
way is going to make that much of a difference.  I bet that if you never
noticed this fps fluctuation (quite common, I think) you never would have
experienced a thing.  Now that you have noticed it, your mind is wondering.

I agree...the massive frame rate problem that most were complaining
about was a sudden loss of 12-15 frames,not a measly 3 frames......you
wouldnt notice a thing on a loss of 3 frames. The main cause for this
frame rate loss I believe is the fact that everyone is not using a
universal core. One race i hosted was just fine until it reached an entry
list of over 8 people with a sudden rush near the end of a session of
about 7 people...the session had been about 25 mins and all of a
sudden....POOF....the whole mess is dragged down into frame rate loss
oblivion.I've seen this happen as well while being a client on someone
else's host as well.

No way! This is not his imagination. I have exactly the same problem and it
is very frustrating.

There is very noticable stuttering when it happens. It also happens online
for me.

It is wierd though - I have 2 almost identical PCs and it only happens on
one of them... ***y computers!

Please believe what people are telling you before immediately putting it
down to their imagination. I suspect there are many sufferers of this with
1.1 who haven't mentioned it because it is the kind of problem that you can
just about live with.

However going back to 1.0 quickly reasures you that you are not imagining
things! Silky smooth bliss!!

This is really a load of rubbish in my opinion. I used to get 20-32 FPs and
was still able to lap 28s at monza, 1:06s at the Glen etc. Either I'm

I don't think such a small change in fps would be noticable either - but
I was wondering where these figures come from ?  If they are
being displayed on the screen as such, is it not possible that they
are acually the _average_ fps over several seconds.  This could
mean that for very short periods of time during the sampling period
the frame rate could drop very much lower, but the average
would remain reasonably high.  Those very low frame rate
periods, although short, could be very noticable eg normally
36 fps, but drops to 10 fps very briefly, then back to 36 fps
could keep the average at 33 fps.

Note - this is pure conjecture - I don't even know what game
you're talking about !!  but the thread caught my eye late
on in the discussion.

No it's not. It's stuttering that is the problem, not really the loss
of fps.
Irregularities in frame rate are not always that perceptive, but
stuttering like this is. I know, I have it too. Just going down from
37fps to 25fps is ok, just the occasional total shutdown of a couple
frames is what makes this a pain.
That's something different from fluently diving from 37 to 25fps.

Try converting NTSC to PAL in the easiest way, and you'll DEFINITELY
know what this is about.

Could be one of those PC temperature/Voltage thingos people run on their
machines. Mine would use 100% of the processor power every 3 seconds, fast,
slow, fast, slow. Made racing games very interesting.....

Then it wasn't working properly. Those programs are supposed to use
100% all the time when there is nothing to do for the processor, and
no cycles when the CPU is actually in use. Of course, every system
info tool that measures CPU utilization will upset the idle-tool.

I use an old version of Andreas Goetz' CPUIdle (the newer ones cost
money, and the old one works nicely, and I'm cheap :) and never had a
problem with it. It's running in the background when I play GPL and
does not interfere at all.

Well, maybe you just 'see' slower than some of us.  So the lower frame rates
DON'T bother you... <g>

I raced for month with much lower fps, before I built up my current
system. Now, virtually nailed to 36fps, a sudden drop to 33 is
extremely irritating - driving feels totally different.
