Yes ;-)

At some extenct.. yes it's just a "newer" "updated" version. Like the EA
Sports game line, that has a better version each year.. (NHL 93/4/5/6/7/8).
It has better physics, and some bugs fixed and add-ons.  No FIA License
still...

Well it depends about the lines under... ;-)

I would say from a Hard-core SimRacer point of view you should get this one.
It's not just better than MGP, but it's a fully realistic product that
really puts MonacoGP in the dust. With a true-life game engine and realistic
physics.  Incredible tracks.  Better and crisper (less arcadish) graphics
IMHO.

Just check out this newsgroup and you will understand. For 1 MonacoGP post
you have 20 GPL posts. Since about 90% of us are all a bunch of hard-core
crazy SimRacers, it's representative to the quality of the product. Since
1month I've seen at least 50 post of people saying "Oh my God ! It's soo
incredible and realistic yadda yadda yadda". I've never seen that for
MonacoGP.

Just the fact of having the Nurburgring (24km and 176corners) is enough for
the purchase of GPL.

Both is better than just 1 ;-)   . MonacoGP is still a great racing
simulator (the second best presently after GPL).  But racing GPL really
spoils all other racing simulators, since all the other feel "arcadish" and
unrealistic somehow...

I think Monaco GPRS2 is great (I've just bought it here in Geneva). It's
extremely realistic and graphics wise puts MP's GP2 to shame. The wheel spin
is the only thing that is a bit unrealistic as I don't believe that full
throttle spins the wheels in 4 and 5 gear (Monza setup) on a dry sunny day.
One thing I do like is that you can catch a slide before it get's out of
control (unlike in GP2 where it was next to impossible).

Just to comment on your observations (the reason for the note), the number
of posts is far, far less for MGPRS2 simply because it has not been released
outside Europe yet. Even in Europe it was only released this month! I think
the posts will multiply rapidly as soon as it's generally released (as will
the patches, setups etc. etc.).

Regards, Gary.

You're right about the number of posts thing, as it's been in Europe only a
week or two and not in the States. Check out "The Unofficial MGPRS2 Site"
for new cars tracks, etc.

It's not fair to compare the number of posts for a sim that has only been
released in Canada & Europe with one that has released almost everywhere. To
be honest the availablity ratio is probably about the same if not more one
sided.

For gods sake, get GPL and forget about Monaco GP. Its just a slightly
patched F1RS...

For god sake *** GPL, you need a ***ing PII-333 to run that shit. I can
get like 25 fps in Monaco GP 2 with a P-166.

GPL is fine on an inexpensive P233/V1000 system.

Cheers!

I get that (& more) in GPL with a P200 & an 8mb V2.  In a race.  With 15 cars.
Physics- wise, no contest.  I have F1RS, and tried the demo of MGPRS.  Not even
close.  Glad you enjoy it.

I have a 266 and GPL runs fine... in a full field of AI it falls to around
10fps at the start (but it seems a bit smoother) and once that clears out,
it's fine... though I think I will be getting a Voodoo 2 soon (Dont tell me to
get the Thriller... as a lot of games still only support Glide and Direct3D,
and because Glide is better than D3D, I'm sticking with the Voodoo cards)

Read John's post - Your P-166/Trident does not a "inexpensive 233/v1000" make.

Get both. MGPRS2 (what an acronym!) looks like a minor modified F1RS
until you take the car on the track. Then you realise how good it is.
The graphics are beautiful as well - different in style, but ,IMO, as
good as GPL. What is missing from MGPRS2 is good connectibility - it's
only possible to race someone over an IPX link which can be pricey. The
warp is also distracting if you haven't got a good line. For the life of
me, I can't think why this was not addressed. GPL is simply fantastic.
All the posts here are a testimony to that. In contrast to MGP it's got
some of the best connectibility in any sim except that the modem to
modem link gets really fussy about mismatched bandwidths. Shame, because
modem to modem usually gives the least warp.
