Monaco GPRS2 - problem with game. Pls help.

by Shellfe » Sat, 18 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Hi all.

My system seem to have a problem with the exe file. The game installs alright,
until it comes to the last part when it's copying the mgprs_v.exe (or something
like that). What happens is my mouse will move very slowly, like it doesn't
respond or something. The file will also take awhile to read, but it installs
alright.

Then I have problem launching the game as well. Same problem. After clicking on
the shortcut the system will be very slow, ie the mouse wouldn't move as fast as
it would, then it would take forever to launch the game.

When I tried to go to explorer, then rightclick on the exe file, same problem,
it would slow down my system, and the rightclick menu wouldn't show for ages.

Anyone knows what's the problem? I tried bringing the game back to the store but
they tested it on their system and it works fine. So I'm pretty sure there's
nothing wrong with the cd.

Here are my comp's specs.

128MB SDRAM
ABIT BH6 mobo
S3 Trio 3D AGP
Voodoo2 card (latest drivers - Jan 2000)
DirectX7 (could this be the problem?) I can't downgrade to v6 cause i need to
play Q3A!

Applied the latest patch for MGPRS2 as well.

Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

Regards,
Shellfer.

Do you have any anti-virus software running????

It could be that scanning the exe file and causing slow down (bit of a
guess)

As for DX7, I'm running that on my system, and it works fine.
Not much help, but I'll have another think.

It could just be your system - I had the same on my P200 MMX, but when I
swapped the mobo and CPU for an Soyo/K6-2 450 mix it's fine. Just
processor intensive.

No way. Mine runs like the devil with abit bh6 64 mb and the same Celeron.
Possible difference: i've got a Banshee and 7.a. Possible cause:the sound
card.
Go to the unofficial and check out the down load section there.

But we're only talking about the time to get past the install/run menu -
my P200 took ages, but my K6-2 flies past without a problem. In both
cases the in-game menus and game itself work fine.

Yep, exactly. I only have problem launching the game. If I ever do get in, it's
no problem inside. The game runs very smoothly. It's the getting in part!

I don't think my soundcard is the problem. I have the SB AWE64. Just don't know
why it takes so long to read the mgprs2_v.exe file.

Shellfer.

I do, but don't think that's the cause. Anyway i'll just try and see. Anything
is worth a try now! :p

Thanks!

Don't you just *hate* when these things happen?<g>  I have a problem with one
of my games too, but I don't want to post it yet.  I want to see if *I* can
find all the simple answers to try first...<g>
