Dear Ed,
First of all, thank you and everyone at Papyrus for an absolutely
wonderful sim. You guys have done an outstanding job. I have a few
suggestions for N2 that I hope will help.

1. Pit stops during caution should be more uniform. In a real Nascar
race, during cautions either everybody pits or nobody pits, depending
on what the leader does.
2. I would like to see more 3 wide racing at Talladega.
3. More aggressive AI drivers at Tal. It seems AI drivers still won't
pass slow cars very much.
4. It would be nice to see cars pulling out to pass and other cars
going with them to try to draft by another car at Tal.
5. Closer racing at Tal. The racing a Talladega is much more bunched up
than on the sim. The difference between first and last is usually just
a few seconds.
6. Make it easier to exit pit stall without having to back up to miss
the car in front of you.
7. AI cars wrecking each other through direct contact instead of just
spinning into the wall and then taking other cars out.
8.Make cautions less sensitive. Sometimes a little bump brings a
caution. Heck, you can't help but swap a little paint at Martinsville or
North Wilkesboro

Also, two questions:
1. Will the new Texas Motor Speedway be included?
2. Will the "Breakdowns" option be included?

Thanks again for a great game.

: 6. Make it easier to exit pit stall without having to back up to miss
: the car in front of you.

This could be accomplished by making the steering lock Maximum while in
the pit stall area, then defaulting back to the "garage" set steering
lock.

Just to point out here how things are with Nascar and Indycar racing right
now.....
I just built a wheel for racing. I had been using a CH VP. I was having the
same problem you are talking about. I had to have Non-Linear steering set and
also had to use from 5 to 10 degrees steering lock depending on the track.
With my new wheel, that uses gears for the potentiometer I can set Linear
steering and have been able to set 30 degree steering lock at *ALL* tracks.
I am still testing the new wheel (just got it workable yesterday) but as
far as drivability goes it is very nice and much more precise than the CH VP.
It is kinda nice to be able to do a "U"-turn in 2 and 1/2 lanes right in the
tri-oval at Taladega. Have not run too much on the road courses yet to see how it
handles there, but expect it to work pretty well.
What I am getting at here is, that Papyrus has made the Sims to function
correctly......we are limited by the hardware we are using....Papyrus has done what
they had to do to make it work with lots of different wheel/sticks without limiting
what it will do with the proper hardware. (hopefully what I have built) :)
I have never used any of the other wheels, T1, T2, Thompson, etc. I am
wondering....how do they work? What settings are most people using with them?
        Any Comments?
        Have Fun!

I was going to post something on this subject anyway, but you came out and
asked for it, so....

I recently installed shifting buttons on the spokes of my T2 wheel (thanks to
Walt Ottenad for the inspiration!).  Doing so forced me to keep two hands on
the wheel at all times...I used to generally drive with my left hand and shift
with the right.  Keeping both hands on the wheel, I found it a lot harder to
get the wheel around fast, so I turned up the lock-to-lock.  Previously this
would make me kind of jumpy on the straights, but with my second hand providing
stability, this doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.  I'm going to crank it
up at all of the non-ovals.

And I'm quite happy with my T2...I don't want to try an ECC or TSW to make me
feel any different about it... :)

Actually, you can thank ME, too ...I was the guy that e-mailed him and
requested that he figure out how to do it and tell everyone.  To my
surprise he eagerly accepted the challenge...I'm now one happy
shifter!

What setting are you using for steering lock now? Linear or Non-linear?

Thanks for the info.

I've put it up to 25 at Cleveland, still messing around at 24 at Toronto, but I've
just started testing today...it'll probably be going up some more just to get me
around turn 3.. :)

And Linear seems to still work fine...

1) No, there will be only 16 tracks in the box -- 9 from NCR 1.x plus
the & from the Track Pack.  Many have been updated, though.

2)  If you mean the tow truck, yes, it will be there.

Ed, I know this has probably already be responded to, but since there
has been so much chatter regarding this 'n than for NCR2 I can't
remember the answer.  And since you have already answered some questions
you have answered before, I though I could throw another on in the pot.

Notice:  It okay to answer that "we are looking into it, but we can't
promise anything..."  This way we will have to right to get upset if it
doesn't happen, but...

Are you attempting to find a way to include double-line restarts in
NCR2?  (You will notice I said "attempting".  I hope this is a big
enough hole to drive a tow-truck^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hfire-truck through.)
;-)

I think when he says breakdowns he means engine failure and stuuff .what
about
it?Also will we be able to adjust the track bar during the race?

Okay, I now realize that his question was already sorta answered.
Apparently Adam Levesque of Papyrus said that double-restarts are a
POSSIBILITY.  There appears to have been a MAJOR hedge even on that.
